Publisher's summary

Lawrence Finkle, known to his die-hard Minnesota Wild fans simply as Viper, isn't used to hearing the word no. He lives his whole life just a little on the reckless side. After all, life is just one big game, right?

When what was supposed to be an innocent bet goes horribly wrong, Lawrence is left to deal with the aftermath and the guilt. In an effort to make things right the best way he can, he ends up falling for the one person on the planet he never should have. The old saying goes that two wrongs don't make a right...or do they?

Amazing book

Really beautiful book about love and loss and finding the strength to move on. Almost stopped because I wasn’t sure about it at first but I am happy I finished it. Wonderful narration.

Sadness and inspiration

This story was about a pro hockey player and his loose lifestyle, who suddenly becomes faced with overwhelming tragedy. Afterward he goes into counseling therapy at his team owners demand because his life seems out of control because he blames himself for everything that happened. This audiobook dealt a lot with him finding his way, becoming the man he wants to be and falling in love with his best friends widow. Well narrated and a moving story.

Very angsty and slow bur but well worth it.

I wanted to continue with my binge of all things Beth Ehemann and having a chance to see Viper get his story told was great. It was certainly unexpected that the author chose to go this route, but I think it served well the characters and gave me as a listener something with intensity and angst to root for. The narration, as always is the case with Joe & Maxine, was spectacular. They play with nuances and emotions very well and I just love how they are able to bring these characters to life.

Love

I love Viper's story. He was already so damaged and then to have been part of something that changed his life so completely and endure the self loathing that comes with feeling responsible for something... this was bound to be a life altering listen.

The entire story had me, hook line and sinker. Couldn't turn it off. I felt like I knew what was happening and what was going to happen, but Beth told the story in such a way that I was enthralled.

Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell are always perfection but I especially appreciated their performance in this book. Maxine was challenged with giving a voice to a child, a mom, a gruff hockey player and more and she performed perfectly. Joe's voice was perfect for Viper.

Don't Judge An Audio By Its Cover

I want to start by asking what is up with this cover?? It's awful!! He looks nothing like the Viper I imagine. It doesn't portray any of the feelings from the book, either. The cover is just all kinds of wrong. He's a pro hockey player, something more along those lines would've worked better. Anyway, I didn't take any stars away from the review, I was just venting here.

It was a compelling listen. Lots of emotions. Narrators were good. I'm looking forward to more by this author.

Joe Arden: 4 stars-great male voice, female voices seem a little stilted.
Maxine Mitchell: 4 stars- She's mostly good, but a smoother reading would definitely bump her up to an easy 5 stars. As she is, though, some parts are a bit difficult to follow.

Cement Heart

This is the first book from Beth Ehemann for me. Although it was intriguing, I found it a little slow and a little boring. This might be for someone else, but it wasn’t for me. I’m sorry.
Narration was good.

This book is about friendships, heart ache, family..... YES I cried while listening to this....it was was hard trying to look at the computer screen while working with tears streaming down my face..... I also did laugh while listening.... This book shows how hard life can be at times and the struggles that people go thru and can overcome with the support of friends and family
