Publisher's summary

Divorce lawyer Victoria Slade has seen enough unhappy endings to swear off marriage forever. That doesn't mean she's opposed to casual dating - just not with her cocky new neighbor, who is as gorgeous and tempting as he is off-limits. But once she agrees to take on his sister's case, she's as determined to win as ever - even if that means teaming up with Ford....

Investigative journalist Ford Dixon is bent on finding the man who got his sister pregnant and left her high and dry. He's willing to partner with Victoria, despite the fact that the beautiful brunette gets under his skin like no other woman. Still, the more time he spends with Victoria, the more he realizes that the one woman as skeptical about love as he is might be the only woman he could really fall for....

Love all Julie James books!

Would you listen to Suddenly One Summer again? Why?

I have listened to it again. I listened to the entire series, again even before I listened to this the first time. Just fun.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Suddenly One Summer?

I loved the part when Victoria saw Ford with the co-worker and realized her feelings.

Have you listened to any of Karen White’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Karen White is one of my all time favorite narrators. All the books are great.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely!

Any additional comments?

I have favorite characters in each book. Of all Jordan and Nick would be first but Victoria and Ford are up ther too. Julie James just needs to write faster because it's hard to wait for the next book.

Good beach read

Nice summer romance. Light beach reading. Enjoyed the characters coming together after overcoming their personal difficulties.

Face your fears head on

Victoria is a strong willed and minded person other than trying to cope with a trauma in her youth, in her mind she sees nothing wrong with her coping mechanism don’t get attached. So when she meets the sexy neighbor and they connect she doesn’t know how to deal with these new emotions and ultimately pushes him away, but fate is inevitable as Victoria finds out.
To me this story had to do with someone having to learn to put their faith and trust into another’s hands. It deals with the issue of abandonment and trauma which later turns into panic attacks
The narrator Karen White draws you in and holds you while telling this story.

The Narrator Killed this Story for me

What did you love best about Suddenly One Summer?

I liked that the characters acted like real people.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Suddenly One Summer?

When Ford was genuinely concerned with Victoria's fainting on the train.

What didn’t you like about Karen White’s performance?

I truly liked the story but the narrator, killed the story because she didn't sound like a 30 something lady. She did well with the other characters in the book but when she did the main character, Victoria, I could only imagine a 50 something lady and I could not shake that image throughout the book.

Suddenly One Summer

I have so enjoyed this series and meeting Ford a few books back and now he gets his happy! Ford has a new neighbor and she is a divorce lawyer. Victoria Slade moves in while waiting for her new home to be ready after she experiences a break in and starts having panic attacks and can no longer stand to live in her home. The walls in the new apartment are thin and she hears nearly everything going on next door and is not a fan of her new neighbor. However, when she meets his sister, a single mom who is struggling, she is charmed and ends up helping her with finding the missing baby daddy. Add in the older brother, Ford, with his investigative reporter skills and they make a great team. They have some spectacular chemistry! This can be read as a standalone if you want and you will not be lost. I consumed it in audio and loved it!

Not the greatest narrating

The narration was different, almost like the narrator was irritated or bored with the story. I had a very difficult time getting into the story and almost gave up reading a couple of times. Eventually I got used to it and was able to finish the book.

Suddenly...

Hm....
Deep, yet light.
Really deep, but not in a painful way.
But enough emotion between the H&H to make it feel real.
Complex, but not confusing.

Essentially I truly enjoyed this book and the wonderful narration. It’s a little different. Both have deep back stories and emotional baggage but not angst ridden. And the sub plot is so well handled I actually applaud the author for its creation and the way she handled it.

So I say hell yes it’s creditworthy. But for escapism romance it has a hell of a lot to think about.

Heat Factor... steamy, hot in places. No erotica.
