About this listen

Folger Shakespeare Library, The World’s Leading Center for Shakespeare Studies

The Folger Shakespeare Library, home to the world’s largest Shakespeare collection, brings Hamlet to life with this new full-length, full-cast dramatic recording of its definitive Folger Edition.

Hamlet, Shakespeare's most popular, and perhaps most puzzling play, follows the form of a "revenge tragedy", in which the hero, Hamlet, seeks vengeance against his father’s murderer, his uncle Claudius, now the king of Denmark. Much of its fascination, however, lies in its uncertainties.

This new full-cast recording - based on the most respected edition of Shakespeare's classic - expertly produced by the Folger Theatre, is perfect for students, teachers, and the everyday listener.

Quite the tale, so well performed.

I pitty those who choose just to read it, but not experience it. Woe to them.

Helpful for following Shakespeare

The multiplw actors made the story easy to follow. Read along with the physical book seamlessly and helped with understanding the language.

I wonderful performance, perfection done with an American accent, for a nice change. Hamlet was done with a fantastic elan.

Loved the voice actors

I liked the voice actors and that there was a woman for the woman speakers. Having background noises of their actions was also great! I think the voice actors did great, and I'd recommend this to anyone like me who struggles with understanding their tones while reading. (I read my book along while the audible played)

Brings a new dynamic to printed version

I purchased this audio book to help understand the delivery of this script and I wasn’t disappointed. The ability to follow along and listen this play helps tie together the emotions to the syntax of the text leaving you wanting more.

All the dudes sound the same. So hard to tell between Hamlet, Laertes, Horacio et al.
Is it all the same voice actor

Dear Gertude!

I enjoyed many such lines that always just got by me before in other readings and performances. Well done, all.
