Woo! And hoo! So much fun!

No matter how often I read this series, this is the book that really gets me excited for where the story is going! It’s the one that not only commits to breaking the tropes, but reconfigures them in a way that hints at all the things I want to happen! Even during my first read through, I was crowing with excitement at what the next books would have to offer! (Despite the worrisome way this one ends, and even that just helps make everything feel more real and relatable.)

In this reread, I have to say that I am finding some forgiveness and understanding for Marcus. I am still firmly in camp “Nope” on the romantic relationship between Angel and him. But I can see more clearly now, that not only is he a redeemable character, I wouldn’t mind seeing him get non-Angel related happy ending. (Tuthfully I can’t even remember how things go for his character in the next books - that’s how much I disliked him the first time through.)

I love the focus on building her friendships throughout this road trip / zombie spy rescue mission. And even though she’s the least experienced and most undertrained member of their impromptu team her contributions to their adventures are pivotal and important and every detail makes sense.

Basically, Angel levels up, the stakes are higher than ever, her friendships with the other Tribe members strengthen and multiply, and we get lots of gross/fun zombie fun along the way! I love this series so stinking much!

Solid entry to the series

This isn't my favorite in the series but it's comfortably good and it has some perks. The narration for men is hit and miss. However the narration for Angel is about as good as any narration I've ever heard. She's believable, sympathetic, and infinitely expressive. Since she's the prominent voice, it makes for a great listening experience.

another win for the whte trash zombie!

This is still one of the best series I've ever started. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and plan to continue as long is the author produces these works. I highly recommend this is part of the series.

Lots of zombies and lots of action and intrigue!

Now this fourth installment was packed with action from the very beginning to the very end! There were tons of twists and turns and so many new details about the zombie parasite or whatever it is that this author brings in this world. And not only is there a ton of action, we get to see the world outside the little bitty Louisiana town that Angel lives in when they must go to New York City to rescue some of the zombies we know and maybe love. For a change, I have to say that I felt some similarities between Angel and myself. For instance, the stubbornness about having other people pay or do things for you, and how it can make you feel like they are looking down on you or not believing you can do something, even if they don’t even mean it that way. And then when she’s walking in NYC with the others and complaining about how her short legs can’t keep up, it totally reminded me of visiting my sister who lived in NYC and her walking so fast, only her legs weren’t that much longer than mine, she was just completely a NYC native at that point.

With all the stuff going on, some traitors, who maybe later we found weren’t actually traitors. And then some that Angel or others trusted until people tried to point a finger at them, and it was hard to know for sure. So many possible double agents, or then again maybe they weren’t! One character mentioned how they’d felt like they didn’t want to “be here” basically be alive, but it didn’t mean he was suicidal, and I get that. I have feelings all the time that I just don’t want to do things anymore, life specifically, but I also am not suicidal. So that really spoke to me.

Something happens late in the story that means we learn a huge load of info on the zombie parasite and how it continues to affect its hosts. We also get histories of Pietro and other older zombie characters and that is fascinating to learn as well. It got really dark with some of the ways the bad guys were treating the zombies they’d managed to lock up. It was horrible and so sad. But again, we learned so much more about their “medical condition” as Angel called it with her dad, as well as other people that had to be let in on the secret in this book.

In the end we have some new zombies that will for sure feature in future stories. As well as Angel who has been doing so well with her new life, finds something that her addictive personality might be able to use to slide back into some old habits. That end of the book made me eager to get started, and I’ll do that in May!

Special Ops Zombie Style with a STORY ARC REBOOT

Where does How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This has to be in the top 2 or 3 for the year so far. I usually like to read a book first before I decide to get the audio, however with WTZ books I skip straight to buying the audio. I have yet to be disappointed with doing so!

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character of course is ANGEL because she is tough as nails and also vulnerable at the same time, Her sense of humor and one-liners are hysterical. My close second character in THIS book is PIETRO and the fact that we learn so much more about his true personality. He is changing before our eyes.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was when Angel and Pearce were stuck between freedom and certain death when Angel outfoxed Nicole Sabber to get them to safety. Unlike some reviewers, I will not hint anymore to what was said or done but I will say that I was snorting and hooting out loud!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and I did! Mostly. Kids and animals still have to be fed.

Any additional comments?

This book was a little different than the others because it was focused on one special op and the details and pitfalls that take place. Those details are somewhat drawn out, which is needed, but the pace of the story is different than the others. This installment read more like a casual spy novel with comedy sprinkled throughout.TOWARDS THE END THERE ARE MAJOR CHANGES THAT WILL REBOOT Angel's WORLD.
