Publisher's summary

When Josie Jensen, an awkward 13-year-old musical prodigy, crashes headlong into newcomer Samuel Yazzie, an 18-year-old Navajo boy full of anger and confusion, an unlikely friendship blooms. Josie teaches Samuel about words, music, and friendship, and along the way finds a kindred spirit. Upon graduation, Samuel abandons the sleepy, small town in search of a future and a life, leaving his young mentor behind.

Many years go by and Samuel returns, finding his old friend in need of the very things she offered him years before. Their roles reversed, Samuel teaches Josie about life, love, and letting go. Deeply romantic and poignant, Running Barefoot is the story of a small-town girl and a Native American boy, the ties that bind them to their homes and families, and the love that gives them wings.

A beautiful story about love, loss and life

I absolutely loved this book. I found it quite addicting, and hard to stop listening. I completely fell in love with Sam and Josie. When you close your eyes while listening, you can picture every character, every scene and you will feel every feeling. I wished this story never ended.

Truly exceptional, moving, engaging, & respectful

I'd like to start with two very important truths.
1) I adore every work of Amy Harmon's that Ive ever read, this one no exception.
2) I am in no way religious, and even less Christian.

Number 2 above is why Amy Harmon is such a skilled writer. I could love and appreciate the religious symbolism without feeling compelled to believe it. She spoke of Indigenous beliefs with the same fervent passion as she did the traditional Christian parables without discounting either as false. She breathed life into her characters and grew them as people using the woven words of God and a Native's reverence for our Earth.
She took a delicate topic of ill timed love and let it blossom without harming the reader's perception of her Samuel.
This book will live in my top 5 most enjoyed reads of all time for many years to come.
I'd give an entire limb for a fraction of her talent in bringing these stories together.
I don't care who you are, devout Heathen, wiccan, Satanist, Navajo, Christian, Hindu or Buddhist. You'll still thoroughly love reading this story.

Lovely story, well written and well told!

I love Amy Harmon but I truly think this is her best yet. The characters are so well developed you can’t help but feel you know them. The story is touching and yet she still manages to weave a touch of historical background into her tale. A perfect listen in my opinion.

I love Amy Harmons books

Only Amy Harmon can make me cry so hard, it’s hard to stop. I love her stories, I know when I pick up one of her books I’m in for a great read, in this case listen. I love this book and this is the first listen of many, I’m sure. Her books are subtle, very much too clean (I like more sexy time lol but they’re so good you don’t care) and they hit all the feels.

Amy Harmon always captures the essence & heart

I think this is my favorite so far of Amy Harmon's audiobooks. so excited to have found such a great author. her ability to capture the essence of native American traditions, the heart and soul of the storytelling and to intertwine that through classical music and composers in the story of that also. wow

I did t want this book to end.

I loved listening to this book. I loved hearing the music in my head and the literature in my heart. The love story was beautiful and I will listen to this book again. The reader was amazing and brought the imagery of the story to my mind. I will read other books by Amy Harmon. Amy, you did justice to the culture and teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Thank you.
