Publisher's summary

Devyn is a warrior, and an unrepentant collector of women, able to charm anyone. Anyone except Bride McKells. Uneducated in the ways of the vampire, Bride is not even sure if other vampires exist. Seductive Devyn has the answers she craves, and he can take her to the dark underground of her people. But Bride’s blood might hold the key to saving Devyn’s friends, so he’s loath to let her go. Especially when he begins to crave her more than he’s ever craved another. Together they enter the seedy world of slave auctions, battle a powerful alien queen whose diseased blood turns humans into cannibals, and discover a passion unlike any other. But in the end, Bride must choose between the man she’s come to love and the family she’s always longed for.

THEY JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER

GS has delivered yet another well-written, complex, fast-paced, enjoyable, fantastical futuristic story where the World now consists of Humans and Otherworlders reluctantly co-existing and it's up to the Alien Invention & Removal (A.I.R.) team to keep all the aliens from causing murder and chaos. All you can do with these books is climb aboard, buckle up, hold on and wait for all the mind-blowing G force action to begin.

Bride is a beautiful kick-ass Vampire who's been living amongst mankind believing she's the only Vampire in existence and the only way she can learn anything about her species is from books and films - but how wrong she was. She grew up on the Streets with only one Shape shifter friend who was lost from her for years when suddenly she smells her and frantically gives chase only for it to end in the strong arms of Devyn.

Multi-layered King of the Targons, Devyn's rich, drool-worthy, arrogant, sexy and believes he's God's gift to women and never needs to bed the same woman twice, he likes to bed different species and they all just fall panting at his feet, that is until Bride comes along. He flirts and teases however Bride just wants to know where he got her friend's scent from but he refuses to tell her and this starts a chain of events that will alter everything in their lives. They each battle the attraction and bond that's forming but reluctantly and eventually they give in to it but there's someone waiting with a different destiny in mind for Bride.

As expected, there's instant sexual attraction, romance, passion, sex, action, witty banter, great dialogue, danger, twists, suspense, interesting secondary plot and characters. Thankfully, Devyn's heartbreaking childhood and character development together with his loyal, funny, loving personality will make him a very loveable Hero in the end.

Worth a credit? This a great love story wrapped up in a very entertaining and exciting story with sub plots and the HEA is the bow on top - so YES it's creditworthy but as it was under $10 my 'just buy it and save the credit for a more expensive book' applied. As GS takes the trouble to weave in the who, what's and why's of the A.I.R team then this could be a stand-alone listen but be warned, if you're a PNR lover, I'm sure you'll end up wanting to hear books 1-3 after it.

Kept me listening.

Would you try another book from Gena Showalter and/or Justine Eyre?

I have read many of her books.

What could Gena Showalter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Nothing.

How could the performance have been better?

I really like Justine Eyre's performances. I have read other reviewers who do not care for her, but I am always happy when I see that it is her. I feel like a narrator makes all the difference in how I enjoy a book too. There have been many that I have not been able to finish because of the narrator.

Any additional comments?

I have read and listened to it seems like a zillion books. At this point, many times I skip through portions of most books I listen to, but I had no desire to skip any portion of this book. It was just the right amt of everything.

Seduce the Darkness by Gena Showalter

Seduce the Darkness by Gena Showalter
4th book in the Alien Huntress series. Can be read as a stand-alone. I have read the previous three books but more than ten years ago so remembered nothing of the world building. I had no problems understanding the world environment.
Paranormal sci-fi romance crossover.

Bride is a vampire living alone in the human world. She doesn’t know her powers or any other vampires. When she runs into Devyn, literally, because he smells like an old friend she’s lost track of, she is confused. Bride is determined to backtrack his steps so bargains and cajoles and threatens. Devyn is amused and intrigued by the vampire. His work with AIR (alien investigation removal) makes him uniquely qualified to find out what makes Bride thrive.

Bride and Devyn are amusing together constantly arguing and trying to one-up each other. They also have significant chemistry though they both try to deny it. The deep world building is creative and clearly explained even though it was started in prior books.
I’m a little uncertain about the ending, resolution of one character. I won’t spoil it though while I move on to the next in the series. I loved the strength and power of Bride and the romance in the end for the two.
All the secondary characters added a depth to the story and expanding need to find their stories in the other series books.

I alternated between a paperback and the audio version. The narrator did a marvelous job with voice variations and emotional cadence.
