Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Gena Showalter's pulse-pounding paranormal series continues with an electrifying story about the ultimate warrior and his prize: a beautiful woman he will do anything to possess.

He is every woman's fantasy...

Corbin Blue is a man of many talents. One of the most powerful otherworlders ever born, he is wealthy, a professional football star, and a legend in the bedroom. But only a select few know he is also a black ops agent...and there is no better killer. When he and his crew are attacked and separated, he's forced to turn to his boss's daughter for help - a woman with even more secrets than Blue.

She becomes his only obsession...

Evangeline Black has always been wary, guarded. No man has ever breached her walls. Until Blue. He has never been denied something he wants, and now he's decided he wants her. As he sweeps her into his double life of seduction, intrigue, and danger, he helps her see beyond the darkness of her past. But as an enemy closes in, Blue will have to let Evie go to keep her safe - even though he'd rather die than live without her...

Loved this book!

Like Tracy and Hepburn if they were horny, sarcastic, no holds barred, hit men. This book will charm your pants off, make you laugh out loud, and wish you had Blue of your own. This is G.S. at the top of her game.

Another plus, that makes this book perfect, was the narrator, George Newbern, he was excellent. One of the very few male narrators who do female voices perfectly. Enjoy!

A Bit Of A Change For Showalter, But Good Overall

This was a cute little story. It was kind of a quirky, lighthearted chick lit novel that put me in the mindset of Hart to Hart or Moonlighting--for those of you of a certain age :-) you'll know what shows I'm referring to. The narration was good, and the storyline was interesting with good characters. There's a lot of witty & sarcastic banter--A LOT--I didn't mind it, but I could see how it might be a bit of a distraction from the story. It had semi-hot sex scenes and if it were a series I'd likely purchase it just for a deviation from what I feel is truly Showalter's niche--the Lords of the Underworld--she really can't do wrong by my standards with the LOTU series, so I'm always interested in a Showalter book. She's a good writer, period, so if you're in the mood for some 'other worldly' sleuthing and romance, check this one out.

Little less than average

I'm a big GS fan but at times I just don't "love" some of her books. This one was narrated very well, but it was a chore for me to make it through this one. I liked it in places and at other times I kept checking to see how much time I had left to get to another book. I just don't think your going to miss out too much by letting this one slip through your fingers. It had potential but sadly it lacked that little something that would of made this a good book.

Narrator Good. Story okay.

What made the experience of listening to Black and Blue the most enjoyable?

The narrator is a really good choice. Sometimes men don't work out when narrating women's romance, but George Newbern does a really good job. Especially when his narration adds to a story that is just... okay. I highly recommend listening to this one in audio because for me, the audiobook enhanced a story that I probably would have found a little too tiresome to read in print.

Have you listened to any of George Newbern’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, he narrated the first book in this series and did a good job with that one as well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not really. But then it is neither bad or good. It just didn't make me hungry for the next word or scene. It isn't a bad story, but I could easily put it down to do other things and not suffer from angst to know what happens next. Which I'm finding kind of typical for this author. Just very cookie cutter and extremely predictable in my opinion.

Great Story, Fantastic Narration!

Would you consider the audio edition of Black and Blue to be better than the print version?

Yes! I have the paper back also. The narrator really brings the story to life. You don’t get the same feeling from reading it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Black and Blue?

One of the funnier parts is when the main character ,Blue, has to go undercover as a stripper. Hilarious! 😂

What does George Newbern bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The Narrator is amazing. George makes an already good book 1000 times better. The way he tells the story, really brings it to life. His Narration on this book it the best I have ever heard.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes! It totally made me laugh out loud!

Any additional comments?

I absolutely love this book! I have read most of Gena Showalter’s books and this one is my favorite. The story is exciting and action packed. I have listened to this book so many times!

tis a puzzlement

OK, this is really a 3.5 star book.

I liked it, enjoyed it & want more.

BUT it's not really that good of a book that it should have kept me up reading straight thru; but it did. I couldn't stop.

I'll probably read it again.

awesome! so much sass and snark. These characters really develop a bond that's witty, sharp and lovely. I giggled many times at their antics. 5 stars

More Black and Blue please....

A light-hearted and funny paranormal romance. This story had so many laughs it was just fun to listen to. There were some sex scenes but not too explicit and it was between the 2 characters who love each other. The narration was excellent, his timing was perfect and the distinction between characters perfect. The story had some interest but the best part was the interaction between the characters...loved it! The sound quality was so good I had to look over my shoulder to make sure Mr. Newburn wasn't sitting in a chair in my library room reading to me. I highly recommend and hope there is more to come from Black and Blue!

Gena Showalter brings it again!

I love all of Gena’s books but this one is just a lot of fun. The repartee in this one is amazing and hilarious. Evidence and Corbin have a truly unique “meet-cute”. George Newbern’s characterizations are spot-on and highly entertaining. I highly recommend this book.
