A duke must choose wisely....
Leopold Dautry, the notorious Duke of Villiers, must wed quickly and nobly - and his choices, alas, are few. The Duke of Montague's daughter, Eleanor, is exquisitely beautiful and fiercely intelligent. Villiers betroths himself to her without further ado.
After all, no other woman really qualifies. Lisette, the outspoken daughter of the Duke of Gilner, cares nothing for clothing or decorum. She's engaged to another man, and doesn't give a fig for status or title. Half the ton believes Lisette mad - and Villiers is inclined to agree.
Torn between logic and passion, between intelligence and imagination, Villiers finds himself drawn to the very edge of impropriety. But it is not until he's in a duel to the death, fighting for the reputation of the woman he loves, that Villiers finally realizes that the greatest risk may not be in the dueling field....
But in the bedroom. And the heart.

I'm addicted to audiobooks. I've listened to probably 300 (maybe more) audiobooks most of which are historical romances. Listening is much easier than reading and you can do other things while listening. When reading you can't do anything but read.
"Fantastic ending to the series!"
You've got to love the Duke of Villars. He's come a long way since the first in the series "Desperate Duchesses." I only wish that the middle three books in this series were also available as narrated books; however, they are not. I had to stop listening in order to read the three other books in the series before finishing up with "A Duke of Her Own."
The heroine in this book is very outspoken and can handle Villars.
Susan Duerden is a great narrator and I enjoy listening to her. I strongly recommend this book for those who love historical romance novels.
Historical romance junkie. Who doesn't love romance?
"I was spell bound"
I love how Eloisa James makes her characters flawed and so human. I found them very believable and likable. From start to finish I loved it.
The rich dpescription of the books surroundings and the emotional turmoil of each character gave this book real depth.
I loved her portrayal of Villiers. Even being a woman she made the character believable and emotional.
Yes and did!
Audio-fiction ADDICT !
"Eloisa is so much fun !"
Sexy, witty, and fun :)
The memorable moments of this book are definately moments of realization of truthful emotions. I like eloisa's style on clarifying the background emotions of each character. Loved it.
It's not as strong as her other books like
"A Good One!"
A Duke of Her Own held my interest throughout the story. Susan Duerden gave a wonderful performance.
I highly recommend it to lovers of Historical Romance.
"Delicious!!"
This book was deliciously naughty!!!!!! I was spellbound and couldn't put it down. I listened while working around the house and cooking. It just made my morning and afternoon go by with a smile on my face. They were some scenes where I was bursting out laughing, some talking to myself and some where I wanted to just hit someone. The characters were so life like...........you could relate. Eloisa did a great job and Susan brought the characters home. I look forward to reading another of her books!
I love books! Audiobooks take stories to the next level. I'm obsessed with Audible and will try to rate all of my books. Happy Listening! ;)
"Started s l o w... Ended great!"
I liked this book. Not Mrs. James best but enjoyable enough. I guess my main issue is that the first half of the book is very slow paced. Then it starts to pick up and it becomes sexy and romantic as you expect from this author. The Happily ever after in this book is worth going through the first slow half.
Narration: Susan Duerden is one of my favorite historical romance narrators. Great accents, different and distinct voices for each character and she definitely adds feeling and intensity to the story. In my opinion this book is worth it if you find it on sale.
"Delightful Story!"
I did not realize when I read this book that there were 5 stories preceeding it. Having said that, as a stand alone story, it was totally engrossing and superbly narrated. I really enjoy historical romances, and this one did not disappoint. I love the Duke of Villier's character - a rake with a soft heart. I also enjoyed Susan Duerden's narration. There are some narrators that are so disjointed that you simply can't get into the story. No so with this narrator. She brought out the characters so that you were just simply pulled into the story! I have listened to many parts over and over with total enjoyment!
"Delightful, but not the best of the series."
The entire series has been an enjoyable listen and I highly recommend these books for their great storylines and interesting narration A Duke of Her Own featured on of my favorite characters from earlier books as the main hero. The only disappointment was his failure to see through the very obvious shortcomings of the woman he selects to wed. I hope Eloisa James continues this series or writes a similar one.
"My favorite"
This is my favorite of the series. It was a great ending to a great series. I am excited when I see Susan Duerden is narrating.
Tell us about yourself!
"COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!"
A compelling, great story with heart-wrenching tension. Keeps you guessing til the end, even though you figure out who will be together, the issue is "how" will it all come together.
Stayed up til after 2 a.m. to finish it in one day. Wonderful love story.
