What a great book!

This is a fantastic book! I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll keep this brief. The story is amazing, the agonizing details make me feel like I was there. The narration was absolutely flawless as well. The narrators voice was perfect for the story and the characters.

Darkly entertaining

Decided to listen to this as I am a big fan of the film directed by Sam Raimi, starring Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton, and Bridget Fonda.

Pretty tragic story. Parable of how greed can destroy even good people. The movie is somehow less hopeless. Hank is much less relatable and sympathetic in the book than the film. I think I like the movie better in all honesty, it’s a tighter more intimate streamlined story, but for fans of the thematic material of the film and the philosophical questions it raises, there’s more than enough of that in this book to please.

Intense!

Chilling tale you will not soon forget. Riveting story as you are helplessly drawn into the train wreck Hank creates of his life through one fateful decision after another.

5 Star

Both the book and movie are very good. Narrator has a soothing voice and captures my attention instead of drifting off as with some.

Fasten your seatbelt, this is one roller coaster ride.

Unbelievable plot! A Simple Plan? I don't think so. Riveting. Alfred Hitchcock worthy storyline. Highly recommend.

amazingly detailed writing but forced throughout

look, this was a good read. I read it in three days. Well, I listened to it, LOL. That said, it is highly detailed, Force, kind of silly and ridiculous. But, it was fun and I definitely recommend it if you are looking for something they will keep you highly engaged. Smith is clearly a good writer but I feel like there was a lot of fat hear that, as a writer myself, I would have hoped my editor would have chopped right out of there. It was style at times but, at others, it was just blah blah blah.

Awful narrator

The story was good, didn't care for the ending but the worst was the narrator smacking his lips or clicking his tongue after every few words!! I wanted to hear the story but this lip smacking was so loud it was all I could hear and pay attention to. In other words listen to this with a different narrator.

One of those rare times...

That the movie is actually better than the book. The dialogue is annoyingly simple. That said, the narration and story are a bit far fetched but entertaining.

You won’t find better.

This is quite likely one of the best suspense thrillers of all time. Stop reading the reviews and listen to it.
