About this listen

"Vampires in Chicago! You'd think headlines like that would have provoked the fine citizens of the Windy City to take up arms against us bloodsucking fiends. Instead, 10 months later, we're enjoying a celebrity status reserved for the Hollywood elite - fending off paparazzi only slightly less dangerous than cross - and stake-wielding slayers. Don't get me wrong. Joe Public isn't exactly thrilled to be living side-by-side with the undead, but at least they haven't stormed the castle...yet.

"All that will change once they learn about the Raves - mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle and drink themselves silly. Most civilized vampires frown on this behavior - but that doesn't make good copy for a first-time reporter looking to impress his high-society family.

"So now my 'master' - the centuries-old yet gorgeously well-preserved Ethan Sullivan - wants me to reconnect with my own upper-class family and act as liaison between humans and vampires...and keep the more unsavory aspects of our existence out of the media. But someone doesn't want people and vamps to play nicey-nice - someone with an ancient grudge."

Urban fantasy is a melting pot that borrows all the best elements from our favorite genres to create truly unique worlds where anything is possible. With components of paranormal, noir, suspense, mystery, thriller, romance, and (of course) fantasy, these stories are vivid and colorful, bursting with magic while remaining rooted in city settings we know and love. These titles range from romances and historical dramas to gritty noir mysteries, but they all have one thing in common: the perfect blend of reality and realms beyond, offering a sweep-you-off-your-feet story that will make your own world melt away.

I really enjoyed the narrator a lot. The story was pretty good but I had a hard time with the main character who is suppose to b 28 acting like a teenage brat. I will probably listen to the next book in story and hope the female lead is more mature in the next story but will not continue if she isn’t.

Terrific narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Chloe does wonderful job of tying the books together and keeping the reader interested. moves pretty fast also and just enough descriptions to form a mental image without causing the reader to skip to the next dialog.
Cynthia Holloway is an excellent narrator and the way she switches easily between characters is fantastic:)
totally worth the read or listen:)

This is the second of the Chicagoland Vampire series, and I will say that this one is the one that will hook you on the series. I listened to the first book quite awhile ago, and didn't go on with the series, then this one came up on sale, so I gave it a whirl. The story really starts to get interesting with this book, with bringing in a lot of mystery, and the start of a love triangle. The heroine finds herself gaining all kinds of extra power, along with having many interested men, which I like in these kinds of books. Somewhat, early Anita Blake. Anyway, I'm continuing on with the series, so hopefully it won't disappoint.

Any additional comments?

Friday Night Bites is book two in the Chicagoland Vampires series. Caroline (Merit) Merit returns and is ready to kick more vampire butt if need be. She's the Sentinel of Cadogan house, which means she ensures the security of the house. I was happy to see more about the security side of things since Merit is taking her job seriously and protecting Ethan, the master of the house. This time around though she's trying to find out who's behind a threat to the weres which in turn affects the vampires. The situation is taking her back to her roots, and I knew this wasn't going to be pleasant for Merit.

There's so much conflict in this installment that my head was spinning. I was sad to see that there weren't many appearances from the secondary characters that I enjoyed in book one. There are bumps in the road for some of her former friendships and even love life. I got frustrated with our leading lady a few times. I know that Merit is still dealing with losing her humanity and her life being changed so drastically, but pick up the phone and talk to your BFF or something. Mallory (Merit's BFF) is also dealing with huge life changes (ie: her newly found magical abilities) and with Merit living at the Cadogan house their friendship is drifting a bit. I'm hoping to see more of those secondary characters in book three. All in all, this was a solid sequel, and I'm loving the series. I'll be grabbing book three via audio in the near future. I'd recommend this series if you're looking for an urban fantasy series with fighting and vampires.

The Narrator:
I was happy to see Cynthia Holloway return in book two as the narrator. She was a bit stiff in the first book, but I think she's got a good feel for the characters now.

I really enjoy both Merit and Ethan, despite the fact I wasn't sure about them as a couple at first. This urban fantasy is interesting. The vampires are almost like strong, undying humans with a few psychic abilities. So a great series start and I can't wait for more.
