Publisher's Summary

Trying to work things out with Nash, her maybe boyfriend, is hard enough for Kaylee Cavanaugh. She can't just pretend nothing happened. But "complicated" doesn't even begin to describe their relationship when his ex-girlfriend transfers to their school, determined to take Nash back.

See, Sabine isn't just an ordinary girl. She's a mara, the living personification of a nightmare. She can read people's fears - and craft them into nightmares while her victims sleep. Feeding from human fear is how she survives.

And Sabine isn't above scaring Kaylee and the entire school to death to get whatever - and whoever - she wants.

    "My Soul to Steal"

I've really enjoyed this series so far. This one is, however, my least favorite. Kaylee absolutely drove me crazy throughout nearly the whole thing. She wants Nash back and wants to give him her trust again but refuses to give him the chance to earn it. She's understandably hurt and feels betrayed, but she also understands that the things Nash did, and let happen to her, happened because he wasn't himself at the time. If she truly wanted him back, you'd think she would want to be there for him and help him through the healing process and give him a chance to prove his sincerity. I wouldn't have blamed Nash in the least if he had dropped Kaylee like hot potato for Sabine, who is supportive and non-judgmental in his time of need, rather than Kaylee who, at every turn, is pointing out his faults and reminding him of how badly he screwed up.

Yes, Sabine is a creepy character. But deep down, she's insecure and hurting. Because of who she is, she has a difficult time making friends. Nash is the only one who has ever given her a chance and loved her despite what she is. I really can't blame her for trying to get him back. Because of what she is, she has to try so hard for every nugget of friendship and love she gets.

Tod and Harmony remain my favorite characters. I love Tod's no nonsense, no sugar-coating way of approaching things and Harmony's way of treating everyone with the same love, respect and acceptance as everyone else no matter what they were born as.

All in all, this book continues the story nicely and I'm looking forward to October to find out what happens next and who ends up with who.

Tell us about yourself! I am the author of "Over the Moon" and "Falling Off the Planet." They are both YA Sci-fi fantasy romance.

    "Prepare for Emotional Torture"

Yes, I loved the other three books, but the first half of this one is a heavy dose of emotional torture. The angst, jealousy, and fear is palpable and painful. I was ready to give up this series. Nash's xgirlfriend is a nightmare, literally, and I could have dealt with that if he wasn't such a royal pain in the butt as well. Even Todd is spouting crap disguised as wisdom. In the second half, the author lets us in on her clever little twist involving the Hellion of Envy, but by that time I almost didn't care anymore if Kaylee kept Nash or gave him up to Sabine and since that issue was never really resolved we have to wait for the next book.

Where does My Soul to Steal rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is certainly in my top 5 series

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Tod and Sabine

What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Amanda Ronconi brings so much believability into all the characters, to be honest, she is the reason I bought the first book. I made sure she was the narrator for the rest of the books and then got the rest immediately after.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Absolutely

    Any additional comments?

I will buy any book which Amanda Ronconi narrates. I have already listened to "nice girls" & "naked werewolf" series by Molly Harper because Amanda narrates them and she has not disappointed yet.

"This one kept me up at night with stress"

Sabine is so unlikeable, the thought of having her in my life even for one more second would have had me dumping Nash like a hot potatoe and begging my father to go back to his job at the pub in Ireland. And in real life, the thought of having more Sabine makes me wonder if I would want to read the next book.

    "Loved it!!"

Wonderful follow-up to the other books! I know these are geared more towards teens, but I have to admit, I listened to them first... and purchased the books in paperback for my teens for Christmas! Rachel Vincent has quickly become one of my favorite authors!

    "Screaming Banshee angst!"

This book had me in high emotions the whole time! Brace yourselves for one angsty love triangle. If you’ve followed the series to this point then of course you’ll want to continue, just don’t plan on reading at bedtime. I kept getting so mad at various characters I was too worked up to fall asleep!

And of course, since I couldn’t turn the book off, I didn’t get much sleep at all until I finished it. ;) These books are such addictive guilty pleasures. I love the whole series but wow this one’s an angsty scorcher!

After this book… Tod is really growing on me. I really don’t like Sabine, and I wish for Kaylee’s sake that Nash didn’t see anything likeable about her either. (I wish that last part a lot, apparently – it’s one of the bigger things that kept me awake.) And after everything that’s happened in the series so far, I can’t for the life of me figure out why Kaylee’s and Nash’s parents ever let them out of their sight!

All that and an excellent narrator. What more can you ask?

    "My Guilty Pleasure"

My guilty pleasure, part teen horror, part harlequin romance. Young adult targeted novel about a couple of teenage banshees working their way through high school with more than the average angst.

"This series gets better with each book"
What did you love best about My Soul to Steal?

All the characters Sabine really does spice things up, and is pushing Kaylee to reevaluate her priorities and how she wants to continue in her relationships.

What other book might you compare My Soul to Steal to and why?

Not a book but reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, because in each book Kaylee is dealing with a new and very difficult situation, that no teenager should deal with. I'd call it "Banshee at Hellmouth"

What about Amanda Ronconi’s performance did you like?

Amanda Ronconi is really great with the character voices, and makes the emotions believable. I hope she will continue narrating this series

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Sabine confronts Kaylee telling her to get in touch with her feelings, Kaylee is angry with Sabine, but I think she also respects her to some decree because of all the people be it her "boyfriend" Nash, or Todd or her family Sabine is the only one telling her the truth, and I think she's starting to see that. It doesn't matter that Sabine has issues, she's really not "Evil"

    Any additional comments?

Even though this is for young adults, my whole family is really enjoying this series. Each Book gets better and the characters have developed in each book as well. It's great to see new characters as well. Lots of action and that's what we all like. Well worth credits.
