Publisher's summary

One of the most successful coaches in NBA history, Chicago Bulls head coach Phil Jackson provides an inside look at the higher wisdom of teamwork with Sacred Hoops.

A new paradigm of leadership based on Eastern and Native American principles, Jackson's approach flies in the face of the egoistic, winner-take-all attitude that has changed the face of American sports. Rather than winning through intimidation, Jackson - who describes himself as a Zen Christian - stresses awareness, compassion and, most of all, selfless team play.

Filled with stories about Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Toni Kukoc, and other members of the Bulls, Sacred Hoops reveals how Jackson directs his players to act with a clear mind; to respect the enemy and be aggressive without anger or violence; to live in the moment and stay calmly focused in the midst of chaos, so that the "me" becomes the servant of the "we".

In Sacred Hoops, Jackson takes us inside the mind of the thinking man's coach as he builds one of the greatest teams of all time. Not just for sports fans, this inspiring memoir is for anyone interested in the potential of the human spirit.

Changed me

This book was all I could ask for and more. It was an incredible and detailed timeline of Phil's career and then tied it all in with bonding, friendship, and peace. It changed the way I look at basketball. It is a definite "should read".

Great book for Phil Jackson fans and non fans.

I like audio books where the author is the narrator. Phil has a great voice and makes listening to his book very easy.

Thoughtful, authentic & genuine.

Phil is the ultimate “zagger” in a world of “zigging.” A thoughtful read that highlights his why & how as a teacher & as a human being. Highly recommend for anyone who is growth-oriented and unfazed by transforming into a maverick. LOVED this book!

Short and sweet

Phil’s words of wisdom for life set around his basketball experience are truly transformative and deeply touching. It’s opened my mind to a new perspective on sport, entrepreneurship, and life. Thank you, Phil.

Excellent storytelling

Well summarized and unique perspective during the Chicago Bulls era. Always loved Jackson's style of coaching and great to hear the inspiration and insight behind it all

all about understanding the spiritual Side

It's all about understanding the spiritual side of the game and life, as Phil would say not in a religious way, meaning without doctrine! slowing the mind slowing the game slowing life!!

Basketball + Eastern Philosophy

Has an immediate calming effect when listening.

Practice equanimity. Practice presence. Work hard. Practice presence.

Stories of the players were great too.

Short

It’s cool, but short.
I wish he would give more about his mindset and how he coaches with a Zen perspective.

Very quiet.

Great book and story. However, the recording is very quiet and hard to hear. But it is a very worthwhile listen.
