Kitty's radio show is as popular as ever, and she has a boyfriend who actually seems to understand her. Can she finally settle down to a normal life? Not if this is just the calm before the storm.
When her mother falls ill, Kitty rushes back to Denver - and right back to the abusive pack of werewolves she escaped a year ago. To make matters worse, a war is brewing between the city's two oldest vampires, threatening the whole supernatural community.
Though she wants to stay neutral, Kitty is again drawn into a world of politics and violence. To protect her family, her lover, and herself, she'll have to choose sides. And maybe become what she hates - a killer.

"Brought me to tears"
I don't cry easily, but Carrie Vaughn's writing, and Margarite Gavin's reading, brought me to sobs during the very touching talk between Kitty and her mother regarding both of their health problems. It was so realistic, as I have been a third person in almost the same situation, and it was so very moving. I, too, have been bitten by Kitty (excuse the pun), and I look forward to every one of her books. As for Margarite Gavin, she reads for several of the series that I am currently hooked on, and she is a primary reason for my addictions! I will listen to her read the phone book. She has a wide range of voices, and knows when to deliver the intonations in her reading. All round- this series is a delight to listen to, as well as a pretty good who-done-it.
I Love a great supernatural tale, a Love story, PNR, a Cool Mystery and Most Sci-Fi....if there are vampires, weres or witches in it, that's a plus! Basically I am a 40+ y/o young at heart woman rediscovering the wonderful world of books and am now addicted! Lol I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!!!
"Loved it!!!!!!"
Touching, Exciting, Reveling!!
Near the end when she finally tells Ben she loves him! I was so happy for her!
She is awesome....loved her in the Rachel books, and just as much as Kitty!
Denver will never be the same!
This book was the best one yet...starting #5 now! Highly recommend this series....give it a chance...you will love it too!
Love fantasy books, usually with a strong female character. I also enjoyed just about anything from J.D Robb I am a fan of mysteries as well. I also enjoy funny and quirky novels anything from Molly Harper is a winner in my book. Since listening to audio books is important to me while I travel I also follow certain narrators as well.
"Nice addition to the series, added a deeper plot"
Ok, something about the name "Kitty" turned me off this book for about a year, finally I gave into to all the recommendations. I am glad I did. She is funny and so unlucky, it reminds me of Stephanie Plum in Janet Evanovich series, but much much more unlucky. I got hooked quickly and I only have one book left in the series. Each book builds on the last, and average about 7 hours a piece just enough time for Kitty to get herself in trouble and right back out of it again. This is not a deep book but enjoyable just the same. It's light at times, funny, and then serious but not so overwhelming that you can't set it down and come back to it. Its a good light read and the narrator was just perfect for the book, she tells the story in a light enjoyable way, and she has become the voice of Kitty in my mind.
"Best Book Yet!!"
Kitty books are so well done, they are on my auto-buy list. Love the writing, the characters, AND the narration. As a fan of the series, I must point out--these books definitely have a story arc going, so read them in order. In this book, there were hard decisions made, and some very emotional scenes. Lots of action, Kitty humor, and a satisfying resolution made a nice balance. This may be the best Kitty book yet!
"A surprise"
I bought this book because I had read everything on my list. I took a chance and bought the book. What fun. I now own four of the series.
An avid audible book listener!
"A really great series to listen too!"
With this series, the performance is so entertaining and the story so well written that you actually might forget about the whole fantasy of werewolves and vampires. Carrie Vaughn makes the world she created seem totally plausible!
The story is really entertaining.
Ms. Gavin's voice is simply perfect for Kitty! She has the ability to sound just like a late night DJ. Her inflection and tone is perfect.
"I normally don't write reviews but..."
This series has pulled me. Hook, line, and sinker. The varied plots gives you enough seperation between character styles and issues, while still pulling together the over all story. And there is a story. The development of the series thus far has been great and I look forward to the next release in audio format.
Marguerite is a FANTASTIC reader and I love her voice in this series.
"Love it!"
This is an awesome series. I couldn't wait for my next credit, I had to buy them, they were so good!
"Boring"
This was my first Kitty Norville book and after finising the Sookie Stackhouse series I was looking forward to beginning another series of vampires and werewolves. Thank goodness I bought this one on sale; if I had used a credit for it, I'd be really annoyed. The book begins in the middle of a scene and there's no exposition of the characters or things that happened in the first 3 books. After an hour and a half, I'm still not any more into the characters or the plot, just bored. Maybe if you know the back story from reading previous books, this book will work for you. But even the werewolves and vampires couldn't keep me engaged.
