Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 are faced with their most challenging mission yet—rescuing renowned scientist Zefram Cochrane from captors who want to use his skills to conquer the galaxy.
Meanwhile, ninety-nine years in the future on the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, Captain Picard must rescue an important and mysterious person whose safety is vital to the survival of the Federation.
As the two crews struggle to fulfill their missions, destiny draws them closer together until past and future merge—and the fate of each of the two legendary starships rests in the hands of the other vessel.© and (P)1994 Paramount Pictures, All Rights Reserved; AUDIOWORKS Is an Imprint of Simon & Schuster Audio Division, Simon & Schuster Inc.

The concept behind this book sold me on it as it is in some ways a tale bridging different eras of Trek from the time before the federation to Kirk's era to Picard's era. It claims to tell the story of the forming of the Federation and the two captains dealing with an old threat from before the Federation's founding. As the book was written in 1994 a lot of movies and tv shows have changed this story and rehashed it a lot. Still a lot of fans remember this book fondly and I had a good time with it even though I found it flawed.
The story itself I found to be a little haphazard and jumped around a lot. It is more a collection of vignettes that captures the feeling of the Original Series and Next Generation. I did not find it bad just a little hard to see the narrative thread connecting the parts outside of one character reoccurring in each of the parts. The ending however is almost sweet and the parts aren't bad. I was entertained.
An interesting story
