Publisher's Summary

Based on a highly acclaimed public television series, this audiobook takes the listener on a heartwarming and profound journey to find lasting happiness.

John Izzo interviewed over 200 people, ages 60 to 106, each of whom was identified by friends and acquaintances as "the one person they knew who had found happiness and meaning". From town barbers to Holocaust survivors, from aboriginal chiefs to CEOs, these people had over 18,000 years of life experience between them. He asked them questions like, "What brought you the greatest joy?" "What do you wish you had learned sooner?" "What ultimately mattered and what didn't?"

Here Izzo shares their stories, funny, moving, and thought-provoking, and the Five Secrets he learned from listening to them. This audiobook will make you laugh, bring you to tears, and inspire you to discover what matters.

"Discover the secrets before you live another day"

This book is not about dying, it's about living. And it's not just good reading for those of us who are evaluating our lives as we head into our elderly years. I would recommend that every adult of any age read this book once a year when making resolutions for the New Year. It is not preachy. It is full of food for thought and action, a very realistic "bucket list."

    "Well worth it"

I really enjoyed hearing the stories Mr. Izzo chose to share. They were often very moving and on more than one occasion I found myself crying. Sometimes, tears of joy, and sometimes tears of self discovery. I learned a lot about myself after listening to this book. It's a great motivational tool and I look forward to sharing it with friends and family. I even plan on buying the paper copy so i can underline passages for quick reference later. I will definitely be listening to this one again.

"the five secrets you must discover before you die"

I found myself come back to this book times and times again. Especially after my younger sister passed away a months ago. The sense of lost and fear of dying with regrets drive me searching for a solution to be not afraid of dying, not afraid of losing it, be it physical, mental, psychological. This book provides a very convincing method and map for me. I look forward to finding a comfortable nest combining this book and the Bible.

"Really glad I downloaded this one"

This is a book that as soon as I finished listening, I knew I had to listen to again. There is just so much wisdom to be found here from those who have lived long, fruitful lives and share the lessons learned over a life time. There are no surprises in the five secrets, but distilling them in this fashion helps one to see when it has all been said and done exactly what things really count in this life.

This reads like an inspirational magazine article was its original intent. It will make you feel good, but there are no new insights here for those seeking to improve their old age.

"Everything you know and Everything you don't Know"
If you could sum up The Five Secrets You Must Discover Before You Die in three words, what would they be?

    This was incredible.

Who was your favorite character and why?

John Izzo, who read the book.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When the woman from the group told John that she was shocked that his country, the United States, didn't have an Elder Counsel and that he ought to go back to his country and set an Elder Counsel up and things will run better. That was great.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from The Five Secrets You Must Discover Before You Die?

I will listen, with great attention, to the person I identify to be the wisest; the person that I look up to and take advise from. When I listen to his stories and examples, I will listen with my heart and mind.

    "Common sense"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Maybe, I found it to contain good information but nothing earth shattering that I would consider a secret. More just common sense on how to live a fulfilling life,

Would you be willing to try another book from John Izzo? Why or why not?

    Probably not.

What aspect of John Izzo’s performance would you have changed?

    Nothing I can specify.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

    Any additional comments?

    As above.
