Publisher's summary

Each week, when Sports Illustrated's 21 million readers open up their magazine, many turn right to the last page - because that's where to find SI's most popular feature: the Life of Reilly column, written by best-selling author Rick Reilly. A 21-year veteran of the magazine and 10-time Sportswriter of the Year, Reilly took over SI's back page in 1998, and his column immediately attracted a devoted audience who helped make his 1990 book, The Life of Reilly, a New York Times best-seller.

This new collection includes 100 of Reilly's favorite columns from the last six years, along with an introduction by Lance Armstrong. The title of the book signifies the strong reader response his columns typically generate (he wrote a column saying that cheerleading isn't a sport, and there was a light-hearted backlash). Alternately side-splitting and heart-warming, but always opinionated and provocative, this audiobook brings together the best work by the best columnist in the business.

Critic reviews

"Superb....Reilly's columns are short but pack a punch; a collection best savored." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Reilly...shines....In this collection, [he] elegantly...delivers sports' essential paradox: the game has meaning, but, whether it's baseball or golf or basketball or football, it's just a game." ( Booklist)

Long in the Tooth?

I probably should have chosen another book for my first listen on Audible. Some of the stories were moving and entertaining; but after a while, they begin to sound the same. I would have been happy with his top 30 columns. I'm on the 2nd half of the download (#55), and I think I've had enough for now.

Great, Great, Great!!!

Rick Reilly, you are The Man. Reilly's columns are the reason I ever purchased SI. Some columns will make you laugh, some will make you cry and others will make you think about things. What a great idea to package some of his best into this collection. Give this one a listen, you won't be disappointed!!!

Thoroughly enjoyable

I don't know much about sports, but Rick Reilly 's stories appeal to a wide audience. They're funny, moving, heart warming, frustrating (over the idiocy or callousness of others). I was listening to his story about the Seattle Seahawks while making desserts for the 2015 Super bowl party- totally disagreed with that story, but then I live in Seattle. It made me laugh, the parts that didn't make me squirm lol. Totally enjoyable audio book.

Sports fans should read sports books

Rick Reilly is one of my favorite sports writers and this book does not disappoint. This is a "best of" from his SI articles and they are all very compelling. The only problem is with the narrator. I've never had a problem with a narrator before, but it's obvious this one is not a sports fan by the way he butchers so many of the names of the athletes, especially the eastern Europeans.
