Ten years ago, the 20th century and the Bronze Age were tossed together by a mysterious Event. In the decade since, the Republic of Nantucket has worked hard to create a new future for itself, using the technological know-how retained from modern times to explore and improve conditions for the inhabitants of the past.

Some of these peoples have become allies. Some have turned instead to the renegade Coast Guard officer William Walker. And, for 10 years, the two sides have tested each other, feinting and parrying, to decide who will be the ones to lead this brave new world into the future. The final battle lines have now been drawn. And only one side can emerge the victor.

Well, the time for the forces of good and evil to hash it out has finally come. Unwilling to let Walker and his men spread further, the forces of Nantucket and their allies march to halt the psychotic tyrant's advance. Battles are waged, alliances tested, and a classic war film is homaged. But only one empire can be victorious, and the victor will forever determine the course of history.

This novel serves as a great conclusion to a great trilogy. Obviously, I wish Stirling had written more for this series, but not a bad ending overall. The only complaint I really have is that Stirling never really makes clear what became of McAndrews, the afrocentrist officer that eventually went to Egypt. Overall, I was pleased to revisit this series through Audible, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in alternate history or time travel.

Everywhere and home again, that's the island way..

I only wish there were more than three books on this time line. The other books focusing on the present were never interesting to me. This story, however, was a joy to read.

Simply one of my favorite stories of all time!

This book certainly wraps up all the loose story lines of the series but ending seems very rushed at the end of the book. The end of Walker and Hong almost seems as an after thought in the story. We didn't get to see Walker panic or fear his end it just occurs and ends. Coming to the end it feels like a lot of time was wasted on fluff. We constantly go to the Commodore's POV and not much happens beyond exposition and it's kinda boring. We're also constantly treated to her relationship with her partner but after two other books, it's tiring to keep visiting it. Other side characters are much more interesting like POV of English immigrants/marines or those in Egypt. All that aside we do get a definitive ending to the story and aren't left hanging on to a finish that will never come. Over all this book is good and the series on the whole is a fun ride of syfy/history.

Decent end of this trilogy

The first book is ok , Second is a stretch. This one jumps the shark. No way in 10 years they're building major naval vessels and tanks. An illiterate, bronze age girl becomes essentially and admiral ,who was really a USCG Lt Cdr as I recall , aid de camp.

I get it fiction but this was too far

Kinda jumps the shark here + too much dei
