Getting Repetitive

Maybe I have been "reading" too many of her books lately, but they seem to be getting repetitive. Jodi Picoult has a way of getting in deep and telling all sides of a story, but the last three books I have gotten (Mercy, My Sister's Keeper, and now The Pact) have been all too similar.

Someone is dead (or dying). Family and loved ones are devastated. Someone has to be blamed and held responsible. Everything is portrayed in such black and white contrast that I cannot choose who is right and who is wrong. Reality is, that is life.

But Picoult holds it out there as if one has to either hate the "bad guy" or love them, not both. I don't agree.

I don't want to give up on this author, but I hope the other choices I have purchased have a different theme to them.

Excellent

Would you listen to The Pact again? Why?

Yes. Great story.

What did you like best about this story?

Gets your attention right away. Not any slow parts.

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to just pick one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The closing argument at the trial.

Any additional comments?

I have read several of Jodi Piccoult's books and am a big fan, but I think this book has been the best.

Excellent Story, but Too Long

What did you like best about The Pact? What did you like least?

I loved the story behind The Pact. I loved the hot topic issue, how Picoult is always pushing ideas that are controversial. I even loved the ending! I also thought the narrator did an excellent job. What did I like least? The length. I thought this book was just too long. I feel the author could have done some editing and trimmed down a good bit to make a nicer, neater, tighter novel.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I think the most interesting aspect of the story was the trial. The expert witnesses that testified to how children and teens can express thoughts of suicide and depression. Least interesting? The repetition that seemed to occur in the description of Emily and Chris.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

I loved Jordan. I loved his confidence, his attitude, his knowledge of strengths and how to use them.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

This book is a movie, and yes, I have already gotten it. It is sitting on my kitchen table right now waiting on me to finish the book. I plan on watching tonight!

Beautiful

I don't cry reading books very often but Jodi Piccoult did an incredible job of taking me on an emotional rollercoaster with this title. It was not written as I had anticipated it would be, that became apparent immediately. I love it.

Such a touching love story

What a lovely, lovely story and really does a book make me cry, but this one did. George read this beautifully and the story the way it developed. Was intriguing and sad.

My first Audible review

The Pact by Jodie Piccoult was a heart wrenching story. I found my self resentful of Emily’s character. What a horrible, selfish girl. Suicide is always selfish…but to put your true love through that was awful. The narrator, I thought could have done better. He sounded like Nathan Lane from the Birdcage and was a little too flamboyant for most if the characters. Not my top 5…but I love Jodie Piccoult and Audible is truly a life saver and a wonderful stress reliever.

Beautifully woven

As always, a hard hitting topic that will have you questioning your own beliefs and morals. Beautifully and tragically woven story.

Another good book

Although this book didn't have the ending impact a few others did it was a great read. Well worth the time.
