Publisher's summary

Life is not easy for 12-year-old Erec Rex. His single mother can barely support her six adopted kids. And they've moved into an apartment so tiny that Erec sleeps with the washing machine. Worse, there is a strange force within Erec that is making him do odd things. His urge to obey these thoughts grows -- until it becomes impossible to resist them.

Then one morning, Erec's mother is missing. The force inside Erec commands him to find her, leading him on an adventure that will change him forever. When he arrives in Alypium, a hidden world where old knowledge of magic is kept, Erec learns that his mother and the entire kingdom are in peril. And he might be the only one who can save them.

Absolutely brilliant.

This was a really surprisingly brilliant book. I never expected it to be this good with caracters that are fun and I've come to really care about. It's a shame that the rest of the books in this series for some reason are not available for sale in Australia. I hope that will change soon.

Great!! I love children's stories.

I still enjoy children's stories even at

Very cute!

This book is well worth the price. I love these kinds of books about magic and alternate worlds. It is a little predictable but it's a kids book so what did you expect? The concepts are very unique and the dialogue isn't as cheesey as some others. I would recommend this book to anyone who is in need of another magic series like Harry Potter or Septimus Heap.

Not just for children if you enjoy a good story

If you could sum up The Dragon's Eye in three words, what would they be?

Covers many areas of possibilities. Brings a thoughtful response and many good situations of right choices

Great Family Read

Our family has listened to this on our vacation to California this week. I had listened to it previously and enjoyed it immensely. I'm so happy to share it with my family. I've listened to all the books in the series now, all that Audible has. There is a new one out that they don't have. They only get better from here. I like the 2nd and third of the series even better than this one and I like it a lot. It does get a little scary for the youngest readers, but my boy is 7 and it is okay with him and he scares pretty easily. I really enjoy the characters, even more in the other books. The plot although quite transparent in some ways to an adult, doesn't always unfold the way you think it will. It is a lot of fun along the way. A fantasy must. If you enjoyed the HP series, Fablehaven, The Percy Jackson-- Lightning Thief books you'll love this one too.

Harry Potter wannabe.

Not a bad story but way too many similarities to the Potter series, down to many of the plot devices Rowling used over multiple volumes. Also, although Simon Jones was terrific in the Bartimaeus series, his narration pales in comparison to Jim Dale's. Better to enjoy the original.

Great young teen-children's book

Narrator was a bad choice for a book where most of the characters are children or women. He's good at his job, but there was probably a better choice... every time he used one specific voice, my brain SHOUTED. HOGGLE!!

Not for the whole family

I bought this book because I have quite enjoyed a number of works listed for young adults. Neil Gamin has never disappointed, Eion Colfer is interesting fun witty and charming. Terry Pratchett whether writing for adults or children is one the best authors of this generation.

Also I love Simon Jones and believe he could read his laundry list and make it entertaining.

This book was not bad, but it felt like it was extremely abridged, I constantly found myself skipping back a few minutes, because I believed I most have lost concentration and missed something. But no there just was not much meat on the bone here. The plot is interesting, but the details are lacking, the motivations are weak.

The book had enough potential that I’m thinking of listening to the last book in the series to see if the skills of the author improve over time, but I will not re-listen to this book which is very unusual for me.

If you are an adult who sometimes reads a light hearted children’s book because you are waiting for Audible to add to their collection, this is not the book for you. I would recommend the Graveyard book by Neil Gamin or anything by Pratchett or Colfer.

The beginning of a fun and playful series.

What made the experience of listening to The Dragon's Eye the most enjoyable?

I know that these books are supposed to be for children - but I have to admit, that I really enjoyed them. If you're "above the intended age group" -- you'll soon find that you are whisked back to your childhood!
