About this listen

In this charming sequel to Anne of Green Gables, the unpredictable red-headed heroine returns for more wonderful adventures. When Anne Shirley first came to the beautiful Canadian town of Avonlea, she was a mischievous, talkative orphan who captured the hearts of everyone she met. Now, a few years later, Anne is a young woman with new dreams. She has become Avonlea's schoolteacher, and ends up, among other things, reuniting two long-lost lovers, raising two orphans, and falling in love for the first time.Hear more stories in the Anne of Green Gables series.Public Domain (P)2011 Recorded Books Classics Literature & Fiction Heartfelt Feel-Good

Editorial reviews

Beginning with Anne of Green Gables in 1908, author Lucy Maud Montgomery created a publishing enterprise as ambitious and successful as its heroine, the flame-haired and hot-tempered orphan, Anne Shirley. Performed in a mature, impeccable American English by Barbara Caruso, Anne of Avonlea is the second of six Anne novels. The present volume finds Anne at age 16, teaching school, studying with Gilbert, forming a social club, and getting into her usual trouble.

Along with the unforgettable heroine and great quirky side characters, the listener is treated to the small, peaceful Prince Edward Island in Northeastern Canada, beginning on "...an August afternoon with blue hazes scarfing the harvest slopes, little winds whispering elfishly in the poplars"...

I needed something light, whimsical, and yet deep and wholesome. This story brought back fond childhood memories, nourished my imagination, and gave me lenses to see a wearied life with new wonder.

Anne of avonlea is a well writen story, it starts out kind of slow but is nevertheless truly exiting. volger language and inapropriat topics cannot be founed within this book's pages and as far as literature goes, i pursonally would give it an A+. however i would definaitly recommened it for no younger than the age of 10 only because it is a hard read and can be difficult to understand. i have read the first 2 books on the Anne of green gables and have never found a thing wrong with either of them. (P.S i am an 11 year old girl so please exuse my spelling for i am still learning and done't know if i spelled everything right.)

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!

The entire series is so wonderful, very engaging, nothing objectionable. And Barabara Caruso feels like a friend, her narration is the very best. I now judge all other narrators by her.

Barbara Caruso is excellent

The story is timeless for a reason. The narrator does a wonderful job doing all the characters’ voices without being obnoxious. I hope to find the next book in the series with a similar narrator. 10/10 overall.

Beautifully Narrated

Barbara Caruso does such an amazing job at reading Anne of Avonlea. I have listened to this book several times. I wish she performed Anne of Windy Poplars and Anne of Ingleside.
