Publisher's Summary

In the days when Scotland lay under siege - from the Vikings who sailed from the north and the Norman English who came from the south - King David sought to unite his people into one nation. For this, he needed loyal warriors. Waryk de Graham soon proved the greatest of these fighters, and was knighted Lord Lion. But his honored position came with a price: a wife chosen for him by the king - a reluctant Viking bride.

Daughter of a Gaelic noblewoman and a Viking warlord, Mellyora MacAdin had an imagination that blazed with dreams of ancient myths and tales of adventure. She had already pledged her heart when she received King David's decree to marry the fierce Lord Lion. As he came to claim her, Mellyora swore to resist this barbarian nobleman - only to find herself a willing partner to his seduction. Now, torn between defiance and devotion, Mellyora must decide where her future truly lies, as she discovers the savagery in her family's blood, and the secrets of her husband's heart.

"Slow start and stupid, annoying heroine"

This is my first book from this author and I chose it because of its high ratings. That was misleading... The only way I was able to go through the audiobook is that I had it on faster play. Some parts of the story are too slow with way too many unecessary details. The hero Waryk is quite honorable, wise and patient. The heroine Myllora was an utter idiot and nag. She must have said "I'm a Viking's daughter" and "You bastard!" enough to fill up 10 pages. She was bitchy, mean, a nag and utterly reckless and even violent towards her husband thoughout 3/4 of the book. Her behavior was completely unrealistic at a time when women were treated like a property. I could not understand why Laird Lion would fall for her, except for her beauty I guess. I would give it a C- overall. Too bad none of Julie Garwood or Kinely Macgregor's novels are on audiobooks instead of this waste of time.

    "Painfully slow start..."

I almost abandoned this one after the first chapter or two, but the fact that I had already spent one of my credits on it kept me listening. Fortunately it ended well, because I would have been seriously ticked off if it hadn't improved in Part 2. I wanted to smack the self-centered, stubborn and whiny heroine soon after she was introduced. I did feel sorry for the hero, however, because he ended up with her. And in spite of her relatively decent imitations of the characters' accents, the reader just couldn't quite nail the right emotions the words were meant to convey. (Furious sounded a lot like pleading to me.) My advice: don't bother.

    "What tripe!"

This book was horrid! A very tedious history lesson about the invasions and settlement of Scottland.
I couldn't stand the heroine; she was a self-centered idiot! The charecters yacked and yacked about the history of the Vikings and the Scots, but sheesh! - where was the action and the drama? These charecters didn't even act attracted toward each other until the second half of the book. Why would they even fall in love? Aside from her fabulous looks, the heroine is absoutley not likable. Ugh!!!
Don't wast you money on this atrocity!

    "slow start"

First time with this author the story is good and has several historical details, starts slow but ends rather nicely, looking forward to more from this author. A pleasant listen.

    "COULD NOT STOP LISTENING!!!"

I couldn't stop listening! A lot of historical passages and a cat and mouse romance that captures our hearts.I have most of Shannon Drake's books in paper, it is too bad that audible has only one of her titles. I recomend and can assure it is not a waste of credit...Just loved it!!!
