Acerca de esta escucha

When a brute of a man tramples an innocent girl, apparently out of spite, two bystanders catch the fellow and force him to pay reparations to the girl's family. The brute's name is Edward Hyde.

A respected lawyer, Utterson, hears this story and begins to unravel the seemingly manic behavior of his best friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and his connection with Hyde. Several months earlier, Utterson had drawn up an inexplicable will for the doctor, naming Hyde as his heir in the event that he disappears. Fearing his friend has been blackmailed into this arrangement, Utterson probes deeper into both Jekyll and his unlikely protégé. He is increasingly unnerved at each new revelation.

In a forerunner of psychological dramas to come, Stevenson uses Hyde to show that we are both repulsed by and attracted to the darker side of life, particularly when we can experience it in anonymity.

Reseñas editoriales

Stevenson's most often dramatized and distorted novella gets its umpteenth audiobook narration from the talented Scott Brick. Although his British accent is a wee bit shaky, he doesn't disappoint. He narrates in his wonted American voice with particular attention to atmosphere and delivers his British characters with personality and a reserve that lends appropriate gravity to the tale and plays effectively against its melodrama.

Would you try another book from Robert Louis Stevenson and/or Scott Brick?

Probably. Brick's performance was generally pretty good, though also sometimes overdone (accent-wise).

My bigger concern with the audio the somewhat piercing nature of some of louder parts. This doesn't seem like Brick's fault, but rather that of the audio engineer's. The leveling just seems off, and more excited moments were too loud at times.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Really enjoyed the ideas here, even if the overall story and style didn't always appeal to me. Most interesting to me here is how Jekyll and Hyde serve as a cautionary touchstone for modern-day issues about anonymity and identity formation (most often in digital spaces).

I enjoyed this audiobook very much. Scott Brick did a fine job of telling this story with appropriate emotion. I liked reading this book on Kindle while listening on audiobook. The audiobook enhanced the experience. Thank You...

A Very Fine Reading of The Classic Horror Story

Virtually everybody knows this story. It''s more fun to listen to, if you try to forget me revelation about the connection between Jekyll and Hyde

Classic story

A classic of course and I remember liking it more when I read it in school, however, now I like the more elaborate, inventive versions that this story has been taken. Still a classic and always a pleasure to return to the root of a story.

I really enjoyed the storytelling from start to finish. Kept my attention the whole way through.

Great Performance!

Of course, I've known the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde but this is the first time I've jumped into the book. This slim volume is arresting and engaging and Robert Louis Stevenson has a compelling way of telling this story -- through a variety of individuals and via letters.

I enjoyed this sad story.

I particularly liked the narrator, who was clear and even-handed. He did the voices well.

Compelling

Gives a decent run through of older English but it’s an interesting enough action fly little bit of content on the matter of what it would be like to have a criminal second personality.

Short quick classic

it is exceptional to hear/read classic novels and depressing to think of authors today and the poor abilities they espouse.

it's too bad authorship has died.

I enjoyed this book. The narrator did a great job, and it's short, so it goes quickly. I thought this book was very good in terms of language use and concept. The ideas it expressed were very interesting. The story structure, however, was very strange and kind of thrown-together. Not the kind of story structure that would likely fly these days. I can see why this story gets retold so often; there's a great core of a story here, but the execution left a lot to be desired. If you're a horror or sci-fi fan, you should read this at least once.
