Publisher's summary

When a murder case from the past heats up again, it's up to Marley McKinney to sort through a tall stack of suspects in the latest Pancake House Mystery....

Although it's a soggy start to spring in Wildwood Cove, the weather clears up just in time for the town to host an amateur chef competition. Marley McKinney, owner of the Flip Side pancake house, already signed up to volunteer, and chef Ivan Kaminski is one of the judges. But when Marley visits her landscaper boyfriend Brett at the site of the Victorian mansion that's being restored as the Wildwood Inn, she discovers something else pushing up daisies: human remains.

The skeleton on the riverbank washed out by the early-spring floodwaters belonged to 18-year-old Demetra Kozani, who vanished a decade earlier. While the cold case is reopened, Marley must step in when some of the cook-off contestants fall suspiciously ill. Stuck in a syrupy mess of sabotage and blackmail, it falls to Marley to stop a killer from crêping up on another victim....

Washed Up Bones, a Cat and a Cook Off

The fifth in the Pancake House Mystery Series finds Marley McKinney and boyfriend, Brett Collins at the old Victorian home where Brett is working. Brett owns his own landscaping company and the beautiful old house is being renovated to become a bed and breakfast. Marley has stopped by to admire Brett’s work and bring him some fresh baked goods, when they spy a small black kitten. The pair follow the kitten to the side of the house and the river, which is out of its banks due to recent rains. Fearing the tiny cat might fall in to the flooded river, Marley reaches for it, then recoils seeing a human skull near the river’s edge. Brett quickly calls his uncle, Sheriff Ray Georgeson to the scene. The sheriff soon determines that the skull belongs to Dermetra Kozani, who disappeared ten years earlier just after her high school graduation. So, Marley gets busy helping to solve the cold case, as well as volunteer at the amateur chef competition. When one of the judges has to withdraw, she is able to get her chef from the Flip Side (Ivan) to take his place. But things go downhill from there, when one after another of the judges begin to get sick I love the characters in the series and closeness of the staff at the Flip Side. Narration is great. Excellent resolution to the murder mystery and loved the end of the book!

ANOTHER WINNER FOR SARAH FOX

Marley is compelled to solve a cold case that hits a little too close to home when Chloe is questioned about a high school party that may have ended in murder almost a decade ago. Add to that a mysterious illness among amateur chefs during and contest, and Marley has her hands full. But wait. There is more. Who is that stranger in town who is a dead ringer for someone from Marley's past? Of course Brett supports his girl all the way, making him a keeper.
