Publisher's summary

A young warrior elf with no past. A ruthless traitor with all the answers. A path bound for greatness or the ruin of Elvendom.

Fel'annár and The Company travel to the Motherland on a mission to protect their prince, amidst growing strife between the Silvan and Alpine warriors.

While his nascent power continues to evolve, the story of his past emerges, and Fel'annár is thrust upon a perilous road of political intrigue and conspiracy.

Meanwhile, the Elvenking makes a shocking discovery. Can he rise from the depths of despair and reclaim his glory as Or'Talan's son? Can he stop the Alpine Purists from tearing the forest apart?

They say civil war is coming, that Fel'annár is the one elf who can restore peace in the Great Forest or cast it into eternal chaos.

I adore this story!

This is a re-read for me and I forgot about the heartbreak 😭 I'm still excited about where I know we're heading. I haven't read books 5 or 6. They weren't out yet the first time I picked up this series and as excited as I am... I'm also terrified

Confusing names

I love the series! My only suggestion is writing so the names are not as confusing to the reader. It was hard for me to keep them straight

All Powerful But Not Arrogant

I struggled with the names in this book for a while, but by the end I was mostly able to figure out who or what was being referenced.

A personal tale in an epic universe

While Path of a Novice (the first book in this series) drew me into R.K. Lander's intricate universe of elves and humans, Road of a Warrior has left me firmly invested in the characters and their stories. In the first book, the focus is primarily on the forest lands, the native Silvans, and their culture. In this book, we follow a journey into the mountain kingdom of the Alpines. Just as Fel'annár discovers that the Alpines he had always hated are as capable of love, friendship, fairness and honor as the Silvans, we too come to realize that the native Alpines do not share the prejudices of some of their colonist cousins.

The political intrigue deepens as the elves in power jostle for position in the midst of world-changing events, but Fel'annár's story continues to make these events personal. He and the rest of The Company (which also grows) bring the emotional component. I laughed out loud at times, empathized with the fears and anxieties of Fel'annár and his brothers in arms, and cried at the loss of a dear friend. It's a true balancing act, to tell an epic story with global consequences, while still keeping the reader/listener emotionally invested in the outcome, and R.K. Lander succeeds brilliantly.

Daniel May's narration continues to bring each character to life. His female voices are better this time than in Path of a Novice, and his male voices are distinctly unique for each character. I enjoyed his pace and intonation, and fully appreciated how (seemingly) easily he integrated the unusual names of the people and places in this world.

I eagerly look forward to the next book in this series!

Incredible depth

The story continues to unfold . Even though you think you know what's going to happen it still intrigues you. I love how descriptive the author is. Don't worry there is still enough surprises to keep you guessing.

A Hauntingly Beautiful Tale...

My emotions are still reeling from the emotional journey that R. K. Lander has taken us on. In the first installment of the Silvan series we were introduced to the Deep Forest and a budding warrior trying to find himself. In this second installment, we are taken to the High Mountains and find a warrior who has found himself.
We learn that not all Alpine's see themselves above Silvans. That family isn't always blood. Family is those that are by your side and always there with a supportive hand. We learn that love while a painful truth that cannot be ignored is also the very thing tying souls together. I can not wait for the next installment of Fel'annár's journey.

The narrator did such a good job bringing this tale to life that he brought me to tears. He made sure to give voice not only to the dialogue, but to whole character as he showed the quirks and qualities of each Elf. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this Narrator!
