Publisher's summary

Ollie:

Word of advice: Don't come out to random guys in public restrooms. Even if they're charming and adorably nerdy and offer to help.

My family believes I can't be happy if I'm not out to the world. I have a bitter ex-boyfriend and an unstable NHL career to show for it. A fake boyfriend seems like an easy and quick solution to get my family off my back, and this guy is volunteering. I take him up on it without asking his name.

I really should've asked for his name.

Lennon:

Word of advice: Learn how to introduce yourself properly. In my defense, I don't recognize Ollie Strömberg right away. I cover football, not hockey. I'm not supposed to see him again, and he's never supposed to find out I'm a reporter. That all changes when my editor reassigns me.

It's a lesson I should've learned by now. Nothing's changed since high school. Jocks still hate nerds. But even worse, athletes hate journalists. Especially ones who know their secret.

Contains mature themes.

Opposites attract

I love this crew of friends. I adore Ollie, he is such a sweetheart, his & Lennon’s chemistry is great. I love how they work so hard to stay within technicalities. The friendship between them is sweet, I really like how they stand up for each other, and are totally gone for each other. This was another amazing story.

A hockey player and sports reporter... walk into a bar

Love; Love Love Ollie and Lennon! my favorite of the series, but seriously these two are freaking adorable by themselves AND together. Ollie's family is hilarious and the relationship of these guys with the others (in the series) is great. Found family groups are one of my favorite things in interconnected series and this series is among the best.
Iggy Toma and Alexander Cendese do a fantastic job with the narration as well. They are easy to listen to and do the story justice.

Funny, relaxing and well written

This is one of my favourite books. The story is funny, no matter how many times I listen it I alway laugh out loud which is a bit embarrassing, when I'm doing it in public. :D The characters are funny, sometimes awkward (like in real life) and capable to learn and improve themselves. The narrators were able to catch the character's personality. I can just recommend this book to everyone.

enjoyed it

Would I listen to it again: yes
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes

Delightfully entertaining, I think of the series, this one is my favorite. Can't go wrong with the Hocky God and the Nerdy Journalist, this one felt lighter than the others and I enjoyed Ollie and Lennon's dynamic.

Narration comment: Both narrators are terrific on their own and do a great job on their respective characters chapters, but in my opinion dual narration is unnecessary for a M/M book. Either narrator would have been an excellent choice for the entire book, both narrators are excellent voice actors but I didn't like having 2 different voices for each character (it felt like there were 4 main characters instead of 2).

3.5 stars

Pretty good! Not the best, but worth the listen. I really liked both MCs. It was a bit slow at times, but ultimately I liked it.

DON'T READ DELETED SCENE!!

Really enjoyed "Deke" until the poorly written, confusing "deleted scene," at the very end.

"Deleted" or not it was a serious downer that I wish I could unread.

Accents very inconsistent, sometimes making it hard to identify characters.

Ollie and his Clark Kent

Reread in April 2024 as audio

Another great performance from the narrators. They do a great job with all of the different side characters as well. Jet’s accent is still my favorite, and I cannot wait to get to his book.

Ollie and Lennon

— fake dating
— strangers to enemies to lovers
— athlete/journalist
— hockey romance

After an accidental proposition in the bathroom, Lennon offers to pretend to be Ollie’s boyfriend during a dinner with Ollie’s family. Ollie is six months out of a long term relationship with Ash, his brother’s best friend, and his family thinks if Ollie comes out publicly he would get Ash back. Ollie, who had been hiding from his family in the bathroom, tells Lennon his situation, even though he’s a stranger. This prompts Lennon to volunteer to be his boyfriend to help get Ollie’s family off his back. Ollie doesn’t get Lennon’s name and doesn’t realize he’s a sports journalist.

After having dinner with Ollie’s family, Lennon gets a work call and has to leave. As he’s leaving he and Ollie share a kiss, and there is clearly an attraction between them. Lennon doesn’t come clean about his job, and he heads back to his home in Chicago.

Six months pass before both men are at Noah’s Rainbow Bed fundraiser where Ollie discovers Lennon is the sports journalist who has recently been writing about him. Ollie is upset and feels vulnerable knowing that a journalist knows his deepest secret.

I love Lennon and Ollie. Lennon is so sweet, patient, kind and caring. The way he sticks up for Ollie with his family, and even the way he handles Ash is amazing.

I loved the development of Lennon and Ollie’s relationship. Even when Ollie “hated” Lennon, there was such a pull between them.

The clubhouse 😳🥵

I cannot get enough of the Stromberg family. I could read an entire book of them and their banter. And once again, I love getting the breadcrumbs for Talon and Miller and for Jet.

Fun & funny

Hit my funny bone dead on. I laughed a lot.
Narrators are still excellent. A little surprised no mention was made that hockey players tend to have very well developed backsides but I only mention that because I had to add words.
