Publisher's summary

A promise is a promise, but this promise is one I should have never made.

Mila, a sweet pacifist born in the Motherlands, has avoided conflicts all her life. Now, living in the Northlands with the ruling family who adopted her, she's under pressure to follow the traditions of the North and let fierce warriors fight for her hand in marriage.

But how can she marry if it means giving up on her friendship with Jonah, the first male councilman in the Motherlands and her closest friend? Every night they talk, laugh, and share their darkest secrets.

Will Mila find a voice strong enough to say no, and is she willing to jeopardize her family's political power for Jonah, who most likely wants nothing but a platonic friendship with her? Or does he?

Contains mature themes.

entertaining from beginning to end

great performance and a standout in the series for me. enjoyed the plot twists (tho Anne's story could have been a bit more complex) and the character growth. Magni is my fave but Jonah is a close second. also enjoyed Milla and Jonah's relationship being built on communication. Laura and Raven at that age drove me CRAZY with their dangerous immaturity amd lack of situational awareness

The Best Book

This is my favorite book of the series so far; so much action and drama, yet humor and love. Magni is my favorite character in the series; so raw and alpha; his character seems so real and down to earth. It is interesting to see how both groups are building a democracy; the highs and the lows. The narrators are doing a great job with characters as usual. Hope the remaining books in series are this good!

So good!

I love this story. I love this series! Mila is a adorable contradiction being Magni’s daughter. I love Jonah. He is strong with his words and conviction. What I love is the Nmen respect him despite his opposition to everything they believe in. These books are funny, seriously funny. I love them all. This is the last story involving the original students. But it is not over. The next books focus on the children of the royal family and friends. I haven’t decided what generation I like the most. Don’t stop reading! Old France is introduced which adds a new element to this series…a new absurd set of laws and lifestyle.

The readers are always fantastic in this series. Noel and John are so fantastic. I have over 800 books in my audible library and what I have learned is that readers can make or break a good story. I boy do these readers make it.

I realize the storyline is not for everyone. The haters that review all seem to quit in the beginning. It’s too bad cuz they could use the messages these stories bring.

I visited the Museum of Tolerance with my kids 5 th grade class. There are interactive lessons that teach kids to truly understand about predjudice. They teach empathy and tolerance big time. I get the same vibe from these stories.

the Motlander man

Jonha is not possessive like the Nman and the the spicy scenes lack a bit in this book but it is still quite good. I was surprised and Millia's daring in public. good HEA

I'm sad that this is the last book

But it was a beautiful ending to the series and seeing everyone grow and finally reach some balance. Loved Jonah. And I was beyond glad to see a happy ending for Magni. This series was unique and entertaining. Elin Peer is a favorite of mine.

loved it.

I loved this series. it was fun watching the group grow and evolve. it also makes you think about if this happened now, would we live the same way or something like this. I would listen to it again.

The BEST book in the BEST series!

The Men of the North books are written by a therapist who really understands people and their motivations. Every one of them is a treasure, especially ‘The Pacifist’. It wraps everything up in a completely satisfying way.
Not only does Elin Peer know what makes men and women tick, she also has a magic ‘way with words’, each one a jewel on a string, together creating unforgettable stories and very real characters.
You should start with the first one, ‘The Protector’, about Christina and Boulder. You’ll really be rooting for them! And the first three books are free for Audible Escape members.
The last book is considered a pre-quel because it takes place before any of the other books, ‘Forbidden Letters’. It’s exciting! I’m almost finished with it.
I intend to go back and read them all again, straight through. Of course you should read them all, starting with Book 1, Christina and Boulder.
They’re fun!
