Publisher's summary

Journey to the Dark Goddess will lead you on a powerful, healing path. In the stories of ancient Goddesses, you will hear your own soul, calling out to you. The Dark Goddess is the creatrix of healing, change, and renewal. She offers connection with the core of yourself. If you have been unable to shake off depression, or fear its return; if you have inexplicable "blank patches" in your life, if you know that something is missing, or something is calling to you, if you seek the source of women's power - it's time to journey to the Dark Goddess. The inspiration for this journey to the Dark Goddess exists in ancient myth.

Weaving the stories of Inanna, Persephone, and Psyche with self-inquiry and sacred ritual, we learn to journey internally, creating maps in our darkest places and return enriched, integrating our deepest understandings. Meeting the Dark Goddess we see a mirror of our own soul.

I can understand why people like this book but no

Struggling to finish. The more the book goes on the more I'm disappointed in it everything in this book is scattered and very repetitious the author talks too much about herself and the mythology in this book has been greatly stretched to fit her beliefs and not actually fit within the actual mythology story

Just NOT What the Title Advertises

I suppose this would helpful for self absorbed females who want a bit of role play escapism from their housewife duties. The borrowed mythologies are wholly inaccurate - fractured fairy tales for the shallow girl. The common theme throughout is the Underworld - by which she means a twisted version of the Greek Underworld.

The word "Dark" in the title - has specific implications in Wicca. Her "rituals" and liberal use of personal anecdotes indicate to me that this author is extremely inexperienced and not "gifted". She has never been to the underworld, does not know her mythology and doesn't know " dark." I will leave it at that. Just so that people looking for a certain thing aren't duped by the title. Wicca Light.

If you are young, naive, or not intellectual, I think this might be genuinely be helpful. And, this is not said to denigrate anyone young, naive, or not a smarty-pants. There are many exercises here which are simply meditation and artistic expression. "Dim the lights, shut off the music, light a candle and imagine being in a womb. And then give a wink and a nod to any easy peasy purification that suits you. In about 20 minutes journal, do some water colors or write a poem." This is a DIY self-indulgence manual for those with first-world problems.

This is NOT any real magick or spiritual experience. It is inner exploration - getting in touch with your feelings. But a word of warning: people with a history of trauma or severe mental disorder can (I have witnessed it) have severe reaction to these supposed spiritual healing, journey-type activities. Seek genuine help if you need it.

The other warning is for those without experience who are seeking spiritual exploration. So much can go wrong. There ARE things that go bump in the night. Don't go there without experienced guidance. This is NOT it.
