Publisher's summary

Three years ago, Rosalind Courtenay stumbled from the 19th century to the 21st, where she has been trapped ever since, leaving her husband and infant son behind. Now she's found her way back.

The problem, of course, is how to explain her absence to her husband. Does he think she abandoned him? Has he remarried? Is he happy in a new life? Rosalind decides to don a disguise in hopes of answering her questions before showing up on his doorstep. Instead, a twist of fate has her mistaken for her young son's new governess.

Rosalind has every intention of revealing herself as soon as August returns home from business. Until then, she'll get to know her son, a quiet child who has inexplicably been abandoned by an endless stream of governesses. That's when the hauntings begin. Rosalind has finally come home and something - or someone - doesn't just want her gone. They want her dead.

Happy for the 2nd book to continue the series

I was very interested to see how the 2nd book would be intertwined with the 1st novel, and while this book is not quite as engaging as the this 1st one I was still moved to listen to it in one sitting.

If you like gothic novels like The Turn of the Screw, Rebecca, or Jane Eyre this book series will be up your ally. Will this novel be heralded is great literature as the aforementioned probably not but is is a fun enjoyable ride and worth a credit.

The 2nd book follow the disappearance of Rosalind the wife of August Courtenay. The Courtenay's live on a neighboring estate to Thorne Manor the home of William Thorne best friend of August . Thorne Manor the main setting for book 1 of the series is the epicenter of the "Time Stitch" that allows for people to travel between the 19th century and the 21st century. Rosalind is sucked through this rip in time unbeknownst to her husband. She is trapped in the 21 century for 4 to 5 years until she can return to her own time, this is where to heart of the story starts complete with a haunting.

My one pet peeve with the story is that we are told Rosalind is not impulsive that she studies and weights her options and this is how she is able to acclimate to the 21st century so much so we owns her own bakery business in just 5 years (never mind she would not have any personal documents or identification in this new time, but this is a fun book so I will let that go. . .). However, when she is faced with the key information of how to return to her home in the 19th century instead of doing the easy thing, the measured and sensible thing she act without thought. It is really this action that allows for much of the misunderstandings that are to follow. I dislike when a character takes actions that are out of character just so you can get them from point A to point B.

So while this book is not plotted as well as the the first is it still enjoyable and I look forward to more books in the series.

Feel Good Novel

Kelley Armstrong is my favourite author and I will read anything she puts out. I was afraid near the beginning that this book might be a bit too cheesy or unbelievable, but by the end, I felt everything came together. I also loved having a feminist narrator in the 1800s, a time in which women were not treated anywhere near as well. The narrator was amazing too, and my only issue came with her Canadian accent (as a Canadian myself), but considering Bronwyn’s part in this book was small, it didn’t bother me too much. I loved the mystery and thrilling aspects of this book as well.

Narrator not as good as 1st novel

This narrator is too monotone. She rushes the the story and lacks the inflection necessary to keep you engrossed so I kept tuning out and having to restart the chapter or backup 30-80 seconds.

Loved the story

I loved story but the narrator is so hard to follow. She speaks to fast or slow. Then can’t tell when another person is talking because she stop breath so we know another person is talking. I don’t even know if I can finish the book because how bad it is.
That is the only reason why I gave it a 3 star.

Not as good as first, but still very enjoyable

I was so excited to learn Rosamond's story after finishing the first book so that I expectantly awaited the release of this book. How she wound up going through the timeslip was actually pretty straightforward (Pandora). Most of her time in the 21st century is glossed over except for her efforts to return to her own time. There are new ghosts, new mysteries, and new servants in addition to Edmund and August plus unexpected outcomes. There is a great deal of internal reflection and debate, plus summarization of peripheral events in this book and I had to check the playback speed at one point because the narrator was reading so quickly.

Had to skip the audio book to get through the book.

I didn’t enjoy this book nearly as much as I enjoyed A Stitch In Time, however, it was enjoyable nonetheless. To be clear: the story is enjoyable, although light on the “romance” side. The narrator, however, is downright terrible.

I tried, I did try. I got to chapter 4 before I simply gave up. Gemma Dawson’s speech is clear and articulated, but too slow a pace for fiction (in general) and for this character (specifically). Rosalind Courtenay is written as reserved but very spirited. To me, the narrator doesn’t portray this at all.

Frankly, I gave up by the fourth chapter because I found that I kept having to roll it back because I would simply zone out. The narration lacks colour and depth that make the story enjoyable to read/hear.

Instead, I caved and bought the book on kindle and devoured it overnight. These characters are fun! I want to know so much more about all of them. I cannot wait for the next installment of this series!

Loved!

Rosalind Courtenay accidentally traveled from the nineteenth century to the twenty-first century, leaving her husband and infant son behind. She kept trying to get back to them for 4 years and finally succeeded only to discover her husband (August) is bitter as he thought she had left him, and that her son believed that she had died. She pretended to be the governess and found that someone was playing tricks on the people at Courtenay Hall as well as someone poisoning August. The romance was good and I enjoyed the story as a whole. 4.5 stars

Captivating

If it's possible this book was better than the first. It had more drama and suspense. The narrator was good.
