This seems like a copy of Winds of War and War and Remembrance. The first two books were free so it was worth the price.

If you want a romance novel with a little war story, this is the book for you.

Not what I expected.

In Dec 1941, no submarines or auxiliary vessels had radar. Too many contrived love affairs and saccharine dialogue.
Naval captains do not have accents that sound like bad imitations of Leo Gorcey.

Poor research and very bad attempts at accents.

The writing about the war was good, but the interpersonal relationships between the characters, especially the men and the women, was just ridiculous.

This book was appallingly poor. The plot was disjointed and poorly segued. It jumped all over the place with one implausible naval action after the other. The descriptions of these actions were often truncated and spare of detail, with too many stupid mistakes by the characters leading to the action The characters were cardboard cutouts that generated no interest. The character's love relaionships were two dimensional and came across more like a bad remake of "Peyton Place" than something a reader might be drawn into. Lastly, the technical detail was poorly researched. One example is later versions of the Wildcat appearing in early war scenarios. Compton's reading of the story was adequate but dragged down by the story. I'd need to hear him read a GOOD book to evaluate his skill properly.
