He never bothered with hello. The shrieking hot stranger had me dizzy the instant he said we're engaged. Then he chased off the bully on our heels and dragged me back to his place for the night.

Pure insanity, right?

Wrong. You don't let pride do the talking when you're homeless, on the run, and hauling around your sick father in a truck so old it must've been on Noah's Ark. You definitely don't complain when Ridge Barnet takes charge. (In)famous heartthrob. Stinking rich. Fed up owner of one angry rooster. Eyes set to permanent storm.

Of course, it doesn't end there. My unexpected Romeo doubles down on this ridiculous "fake fiancee" rescue scheme. One blazing kiss shatters worlds. I'm swept up in a small-town fairy tale, wishing I hadn't lost my faith in wishes years ago.

He's saving my life. Hero and done. Nothing more. Prince Charmings don't really marry pumpkin farmers from Wisconsin. Give me strength. Tell me his gaze doesn't scream obsession. Save me from his oh-so-believable growls. Help me believe our little arrangement never, ever ends in "I do".

Contains mature themes.

Slow and weak suspense

I have listened to several books with Tor Thom and most have been ok. This is the first one with Heather Costa. Narrator makes of breaks an audio book. Female narrator’s voice consistently sounded like she needed to clear her throat or recorded after a night out. It was so frustrating because I like the story itself. Tor is good with southern accents but didn’t do it here considering Ridge was from Southern California and not South Carolina. Narrator should match the setting of the story. Even the romantic scenes were poorly done. Just didn’t have the feels that I look for in a good book.

Narration isn’t great

I like this series because it sort of reminds me of the A-Team, with their penchant for bringing down baddies. I like the main male character, not so much the female.
The narration is annoying. I try to avoid books read by Tor Thom, because he has a very unnatural speaking cadence and always seems out of breath. Ms Costa’s female narration was only slightly better, but she tried the same rhythm as the male narrator, for some reason, whithout sounding out of breath, though, which is a plus. Both narrator’s other gender voice is pretty bad.
The story is OK, nothing unexpected. The “reveal” is pretty drawn out and overall, it is too long. Of course, we see the ever-present, annoying tropes that writers use to allegedly “spice up” the story: people going off script when it hirts the others the most, including the female character so that the main male character has to improvise; the female character’s low opinion of herself, thinking she is not good enough for him… Sex scenes are same old, duplicated from dozens of books like this and not very exciting.
Overall, it’s not too bad for the genre. Probably better in book format, where you can avoid the bad narration.

Story OK, narration bad

The things I loved about this story, are the characters and the supporting characters, and the story itself. Nicole always does a great job in her writing. The only thing that would have been better is the female Narrator and that is why I only gave 3 stars on performance. unfortunately Heather sounded like a frog and annoying and her male voice was not even close to Tor, and it sounded really robotic which took away from the story. Not to be insulting to Heather, it just wasn't a fit.

Very well written story. Great characters. Nice romance. Great narration.

Main female characters dad made some poor life choices. On the run with no where to go they are given a place to stay by a Hollywood actor with his own issues to overcome.

Nice love story

The story was good. A bit unrealistic but we don't read romance for a dose of reality, right?
Grace and her dad are going West during a winter storm. They are running from some bad men that her dad became involved with. One of the things tracked them to a bar in the middle of nowhere in the blizzard where she was saved by a Hollywood actor who coincidentally also used to be special forces in the military with a lot of connections. He saves Grace and her dad from themselves and the bad guys. HEA.
While Heather Costa's narration was okay there was a cadence to Your Thom's voice that I could have done without.
Still a good book but not my favorite.

I didn't love the narration

I really love the way Nicole Snow writes. I love her characters and her stories. This one is no exception. There are interesting characters, an interesting plot, and enjoyable suspense. However, I really had a lot of trouble with the performance. Sometimes it was very good. Sometimes it was very annoying and the speed and tone of the voices were just wrong. There wasn't consistency. I do love the happy ending.

Very entertaining story, mediocre performance

Ridge and Grace were fun characters. There was also a group of supporting characters that I really liked. Overall, this was a fun, light-hearted listen. Where I struggled at times was with the inconsistencies in the author's voice. It made some of the dialogue awkward and pulled me out of the moment at times. As for the narration, Tor Thom's voice is one of my favorites. He could probably make listening to someone read the dictionary enjoyable. Heather Costa was a new to me voice and I enjoyed listening to her narration as well.
