Disappointment

JWright
I love the beautiful accent of the narrator and the recipes sound delicious; however, about three chapters into the story my ears were assaulted with vulgar language!!
WHY is including such speech necessary??
I am removing this selection from my library, AND I will not choose another selection by this author— ever!

Not fun

First, this author has a serious issue with skinny people. In both novels I've listened to, her characters don't stop skinny shaming. Second, the main characters get super annoying this book. They get needy and it makes it difficult to listen to

Not as good as the first book

I was so excited to see there was a second book in this series after listening to and loving the first one. I just couldn’t really get into this one. The characters didn’t seem as likable as they were in the first. And as some of the other reviewers have stated, I did take offense to the MANY jabs that were made throughout toward Americans. It was a little overkill in my opinion.

Not a fan of the American Stereotypes

Not a fan of the horrible American accents or all the stereotypes, like the brownie recipe that is just offensive in its digs at Americans. And people in NYC are not all rich and perfect -looking. We Americans also don’t all tattoo our eyebrows on.
Love her books, but as an American, I’m not a fan of this one.

ugh all the recipes

I love Jenny's books and this was no exception. I fell in love with the characters in the first book. What I hated was the 5 minute long recipes at the beginning of every chapter. I think they could have left 75% of them out of the AUDIO book. Not very practical. I spent my time fast forwarding through them.

It's Was Just Ok...

The story was very light on substance. The American accents are off, and certain descriptions are just not accurate. I didn't hate the story, but it was rather boring. One thing that really annoyed me was the transitions between chapters. it was confusing at times. The narrator needed to take a beat and pause.

I honestly only got halfway through this

The narrator was great for what she’s working with… it’s practically plotless, vague characters, needless wokism tossed in for… effect? To mark a notch? Boring boring… deathly boring

Great story, insufferable American accent

The story is lovely and the characters are well rounded. I enjoyed the evolution of the story from the first novel.
The most solid distraction is the narrator’s American accents - all lisps and weird Jersey Shore imitations.

Not like the 1st book

The first book in the series was sweet, funny, and genuine. I was looking forward to continuing once I saw that there were more in the series… but the familiar characters were less lovable as they continued to make the same mistakes from the past, and the new characters were all contrived, rude caricatures of stereotypical Americans/New Yorkers. At some point, I wondered if the author had ever been to the States at all. And then I wondered if she wasn’t just insulting Americans on purpose. The accents, the repeated digs at American food, American baked goods… and root beer floats made of lemonade. I’ve read AI copy that hit the mark more accurately. So disappointed.

The sweetest story! I want a 3rd book!

I absolutely love this book & Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe (the first book in this series)! They were just perfect for a lighthearted, easy to follow, fun & romantic read! It was a little bit of laughter, whimsy, sadness, and then pure delight all wrapped up into a delicious cupcake! All of which there are recipes for! I have another favorite series (starving for southern) which does the same, ties the food & romance in together & gives recipes with each chapter, and this ranks right up there with that for me! Lizzy’s character is so well written, you literally feel like you know her…actually all of the characters are very well written. With the wonderful description & the perfect narration, you truly feel like you’re sitting in the warm & cozy cafe enjoying the baked treats & a latte right along with the fabulous group of friends! I so wish there would be a 3rd book in this series to continue following the story of Liszt & Austin as they embark on the new chapter in their life together!
