Publisher's summary

Cold cases, old enemies, ex-lovers, and vengeful spirits are making life dangerous for psychic medium Simon Kincaide and his boyfriend, homicide detective Vic D'Amato.

The ghosts of Myrtle Beach are restless, trapped by love, secrets, scandals, and spells, keeping Simon busy protecting the living from the unhappy dead. Someone from Vic's past is out to destroy him and everyone he holds dear, and the high-profile trial of the first case Simon and Vic worked together puts them in the spotlight - and put a target on their backs. As a deadly trap closes around them, can Simon and Vic tie up the loose ends to stop the threat, or will they become the newest ghosts of the Grand Strand?

Engaging tale

How hard can it be to get engaged? When the dead ghosts want to help but the living keep getting in the way, Simon & Vic do the best they can. The thriller plot gets a little deus ex machina and there’s rather a lot of assuming about the antagonist, but it’s engaging nonetheless, so to speak. Nice slice of life story, both personal & professional, on the romance front. The guys remain solidly on the same team despite obstacles, which I appreciate in ‘post HEA’ series like this.

Steam: Medium low? The on page details were more front loaded. The matter half had a larger cast in most scenes which ruled out more romps.

Narration: I continue to enjoy the narration of this series. It’s quality work with solid sound.

Morgan Brice and Kale Williams did it again!

The combination of Morgan’s wonderful “Badlands” stories and Kale’s narration is absolute perfection! Whenever I can’t find a new audiobook to listen to - when nothing sounds good - I know I can re-listen to any of these stories and find myself in Myrtle Beach, caught up in the lives of Simon and Vic. These books are some of the best psychic/ghost stories that you’ll find. One of the best things about this continuing series is that I can always count on the author to keep Simon and Vic’s relationship solid. They’re a team and work together beautifully. If you’re someone who likes relationship angst, you won’t find it here. These two men are adults and they love and treat each other that way. Combine all of this with the voice acting of Kale Williams - outstanding.

Narrator Kale Williams rocks the heck out of this!

Loose Ends! What an appropriate title to this Badlands series novel! In addition to the work Simon does putting the dead to rest, preventing malevolent spirits from being a danger to both living and dead, he provides emotional support to homicide detective Vic D'Amato as he is being personally and professionally attacked. But all is not a bed of roses for Simon, either. His mother, in her bid to see him 'living optimally', has encouraged his ex-fiancé to pursue a reconciliation that will benefit both professionally, academically, and financially. When contacts in Pittsburg tell him about the escape of his ex-lover/ex-partner, Vic and his associates at the Myrtle Beach Police Department realize who it is that is responsible for all of his current troubles. Vic also understands that Simon is in real danger as the ex has threatened to destroy all that he loves.
Unfortunately for Simon's ex, he gets captured by Vic's ex who mistakes one man for the other. A spirit gleeful of the ex's coming demise lead tells Simon how the ex destroyed him professionally in order to advance at the university. When the ex is rescued and lying in the hospital, Simon confronts him with what he knows. It isn't likely that Simon's ex will bother him again in hopes that Simon will keep secret what he has learned.
Once again readers experience a superb story that results from an incredible premise with outstanding world-building and great character development. In addition, the story flows well as the writer is meticulous with the pacing and balance in the narrative. As this series is becoming more outstanding with the addition of each sequel, readers can't help but clamor for the next novel. I'm anxious to see what Morgan Brice has in store for her audience!

Just the Best

One of my favorite book couples, they're right up there with Miro and Ian. I really like how they communicate, how they will do what it takes for the people they love and are smart about it! I'm dragging out listening because I don't want it to be over. Kale Williams is 10/10. great choice for the series

Plot twists leading to the villan

I liked the while thing particularly the lack of vulgarity. The characters are presented in a real manner. Gay or Straight. Good sizzle. The performance is A+
