Publisher's summary

For fans of Robin Benway's Far from the Tree, a powerful and heartwarming look at a teen girl about to age out of the foster care system.

Growing up in foster care, Muir has lived in many houses. And if she's learned one thing, it is to Pack. Light. Carry only what fits in a suitcase.

Toothbrush? Yes. Socks? Yes. Emotional attachment to friends? Foster families? A boyfriend? Nope! There's no room for any additional baggage.

Muir has just one year left before she ages out of the system. One year before she's free. One year to avoid anything - or anyone - that could get in her way.

Then she meets Francine. And Kira. And Sean.

And everything changes.

True, beautiful and endearing

LOVED this book. It’s so true to the account of children in foster care. I love that it identifies the brokenness of the our system. The treasures that kids can find meaning about in the middle of heartbreak. I didn’t want the book to end because I wanted to see more of her journey in experiencing love inside her and around her.

Muir’s development, learning not to be scared to care, learning to trust others and to stand up for what she believed was right and the truth.

Best foster care book

I read this book for my language arts class and I fell in love with this. If you want to learn more about foster care you’ll love this. It definitely hooked me in and I was thrown for some twist. 10/10 recommend

Characters you can route for.

Narration was terrific. Story was well written and the characters well developed. I was so invested in the main characters outcome.

Thank You

A story that truly speaks the story of real foster kids! I also fell in love Muir’s character and name! I maybe naming a child Muir in the future! I wish these books and stories had found me as a teenager. When your in the system it feels like no one else “gets it,” but Muir, she got it!

Enlightening

I loved the author's descriptiveness. Listen to her note at the end. She did her homework for this book.

A feel good story.

This was a world that I knew existed, but really knew nothing about. items that can mean the world to some and nothing to someone else. This is a story that holds your heart.
