Evie Reminds Me of Miss Fisher's Mysteries

A very British Cozy mystery about Evangeline Parker, Countess of Woodbridge who investigates an accident and someone tries to kill her. There are a lot of people attending the Duke of Hetherington's house party who may be on the murderer's list.

Fun 1920s Murder Mystery

I thoroughly enjoyed this cozy tale that is set in 1920s England. It is an easy listen, that doesn't require you to listen so closely as many other books. I was able to listen and play some games on my iPad at the same time. It is rich in details of the era and the lives of the wealthy following the Great War. This may not be everyone's "cup of tea" but it suited me. I like a book that is not so heavy, every once in a while. I want to know more about Evie's new chauffeur. I believe that Tom has some more tricks up his sleeve. 😅 I will definitely listen to the next in the series.

Lovely story

Well done; I enjoyed the story. They require fifteen word reviews. So here are words.

Enjoyable Quiet Read

This was a listen full of what I assume are genuine details from wealthy England in the 1920s. It was a little disappointing that there was so much build up to the mystery and then a simple, very-few-embellishments resolution. The buildup was worth it, though, and I intend to read and listen to more in this series. This narrator did a nice job and was a pleasant voice in my ear throughout this audiobook.

Too many characters

Hard to follow along. Good narration but story lacked depth and ending was anti climatic.

Well narrated

Pearl Hewitt is a great narrator. Her American & British accents are smooth and flawless. So often Americans are given ugly accents.
The book is a good classic mystery, but felt abridged. Good bones but characters not fleshed out enough .

disappointing

i was enjoying the story and the characters and then wham, out of nowhere it suddenly ends. The end was unexpected, in the sense that the story did not appear to be winding up and unexpected in the sense that the solution came out of almost nowhere. it's like the author suddenly got bored and said.... and then they all died. like my children did when they wrote stories in elementary school.

Complicated for no reason

Not much of a story, with 32 twists for no reason. No tension, no suspense. A few of the characters are ok and likable enough, but not enough to hold a plot together. The narrator does a good job, which makes it ok for background noise. Glad it was on the Plus catalog, not for me.

Not worth the listen

I love a good cozy mystery. I love English house parties. I love a gentle send up of English manners and class. Given all of this I thought this is would be a lovely diversion, It wasn't. The main character wasn't sympathetic at all, the plot was extremely thin, and there is no character development at all. Frankly the whole mess was just tiresome. I only finished listening to it yesterday, and already I cannot recall the denouement. Really a very forgettable and not enjoyable book. There are others in this genre which are so, so much better. The narrator was good though. She did her best with lacklustre narrative and dialogue.

Technical difficulties and unable to return book

So I’m not able to review whether this was a good story or not. I thought the narrator was pleasant to listen to—just until, about 15 minutes into the book, it had technical difficulties, the thing started skipping, and I couldn’t get it to flow smoothly again. I was unable to return the book. How else can I tell Audible? And of course, I’m stuck having paid for a book I can’t listen to.
