She was called Belle from Hell....

As fierce and indomitable as any man, Isabelle of Langston rules the family lands with an iron hand after her father's death. But the brazen beauty meets her match in Hugh Fauconier, bold knight and rightful Saxon heir to Langston Keep. By the King's hand, he is made her husband. Hugh's virile prowess reveals to Belle the delicious pleasures of the flesh, as their turbulent days of verbal sparring melt into nights of erotic abandon.

But a treacherous plot enslaves Hugh to the evil Vivienne d'Bretagne, a sorceress whose sexual magic is as powerful as it is dark. Discovering the castle lair where her husband is enchanted, Belle is caught, and rendered helpless by the twisted passion of Vivienne's brother, Guy. But not even her captor's devious ecstasy can destroy her will to free her beloved Hugh....

A bit too much

Well not to sure about this book. The age of "The Hellion" is little young it made me feel icky in some scenes. Spoiler: kidnapping/hostage (not really spoiler every romance has one) it got a bit weird and downright dirty with way too much sex. This was the first time I listened to this author kind of bummed.

Cute story and romance, lovely historical fiction

The performance was beautiful! Danielle Cohen does a phenomenal job with accents. I do recommend listening to it at 1.2x or 1.3x. I don’t usually listen sped up, but this book sounds great at those speeds. It is an interesting romance, however keep in mind it takes place in the 1100s, so women were married off at young ages (13-15). As a warning, I think it needs to be mentioned there is a scene of underage non-con, however that is not the main character and it is just the one short scene.

This story has a fantastic and interesting twist in the last third or so of the book! I recommend listening to it for that.

This was not my favorite listen

The story was way too drawn out. And the names of lesser characters seemed excessively repetitive. A change of letter to name a new character only works once. Maybe.

Historically interesting, that's about it!

After listening to the O'Malley Saga, all of the books. all the stories, and enjoying ALL of them, the characters, history, narration, etc. this book was a disappointment!!

Ok Bertrice Small, I see you....

I love Belle from Hell! I love the fact that she maintained her teenage personality throughout the first part of the novel. I loved the feeling of watching her grow and seeing how she matured. Even then she didn't lose her spunky personality. The sibling characters that were introduced were real treat and gave a GREAT twist to climax of the novel. The entire time they were there I kept feeling so much suspense over, "how will they get away" and "is someone going to die?" Towards the end when they finally get back home they have a quarrel and I didn't care for that. It felt unnecessary since they had been through so much.

Overall a good lengthy listen for a long drive. Thanks!

I liked the beginning but forced myself to finish it.

Hate to say it, but I ended up hating this book.
I liked the historical details, the period-appropriate settings & descriptions of every day living, and the narration did the best it could.
The story started out well, but descended into places that did not make sense or were necessary. Characters’ behavior became unbelievable compared to their previous characterization, and I struggled to listen to the last 3/4 to 1/2 of the book. I had to force myself to finish it.

Hard to stay invested

The female protagonist is completely unlikeable and is absolutely terrible to her own mother for what feels like half the book. She admits to being afraid of her fathers abuse but takes up for him time and time again. She is an absolute brat. Also so many of the obstacles in the book are quickly and easily overcome without much effort. Some of the logic of the characters and the book just didn’t make sense at times and probably about half way through I had to come back and read the books description because I had no idea where this story way going. It very much reads as if it was started with one intention then at some point a new story idea was thought of and so the books tone changes from a typical historical romance to a dark fantasy romance with magic. Also without spoiling anything, the magic stuff is resolved so uneventfully and without any actual action from either of the protagonists. They just luck their way out of it all. Also the last bits of the book were frustratingly illogical and felt forced just to create an obstacle between the couple after all they both did to survive. And even that for ended with basically it will never be forgiven because double standards. I only finished this book for completionist sakes. I don’t normally leave reviews, but this story was just so frustrating with its character building/development and direction.

one of her worst

to say this was disappointing was probably generous so let’s get to it - i found the characters unlikeable, the chemistry lacking, the plot silly and the sex scenes nausea at times. the only characters i enjoyed are the mother and stepfather. all too busy to care for their land and people and family. so many other authors to spend your credit on where the hero isn’t considered homely, self absorbed and weak and the heroine is smart, strong and funny. i like to root for my protagonists ie books like suzan tisdale, kathleen woodiwiss, etc. i’ve read many of this authors books but won’t be choosing any more for awhile after this one
