Publisher's summary

Overthinking isn't a personality trait. It's the sneakiest form of fear.

It steals time, creativity, and goals. It's the most expensive, least productive thing companies invest in without even knowing it. And it's an epidemic. When New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff changed his life by transforming his overthinking, he wondered if other people might benefit from what he discovered. He commissioned a research study to ask 10,000 people if they struggle with overthinking too, and 99.5 percent said, "Yes!"

The good news is that in Soundtracks, Acuff offers a proven plan to change overthinking from a super problem into a superpower. When we don't control our thoughts, our thoughts control us. If our days are full of broken soundtracks, thoughts are our worst enemy, holding us back from the things we really want. But the solution to overthinking isn't to stop thinking. The solution is running our brains with better soundtracks. Once we learn how to choose our soundtracks, thoughts become our best friend, propelling us toward our goals.

If you want to tap into the surprising power of overthinking and give your dreams more time and creativity, learn how to DJ the soundtracks that define you. If you can worry, you can wonder. If you can doubt, you can dominate. If you can spin, you can soar.

Loved it!

My daughter recommended this book to me. I am retired now, but wish I would have read/heard it 30 years ago. Should be required reading.

Best book I never knew I needed

Thank you to the man who truly understands what it means to write a story in your head before it even happens. I will be listening to this one on repeat to get all the tips this book offers. Already applying the 3 questions. Can’t wait to get going on the rest!

Practical Awesomeness

Soundtracks is my first experience with Jon Acuff, and it was great!

This book is well balanced with humor and seriousness with a heavy dose of super, practical wisdom. Jon makes revolutionary ideas reachable and potentially daunting life changes obtainable.

Enjoy learning how to change your internal dialogues with the practical awesomeness of Soundtracks.

It’s got a good beat and you can dance to it!

I love how Jon reads. This book has highlighted all the subtle (and not so subtle) programming I have going on in my brain. I’m inspired to change my soundtracks!!

Loved it!

This author adds interesting extras that are not in the book. He accurately leads the reader to understand that if you choose your thoughts, you choose your actions, and you choose what kind of life you want to have!

So much more useful than...like...anything.

"Mind is all" - the Buddha.

That wasn't in the book, but my point is, to choose your thoughts ahead of time is so powerful.

Very good, much better than most self help books

Actionable info that can make a difference. Short, easy to digest, not bulked up with pointless case studies and interviews that reiterate the point for the 20th time. Each example buttresses a new idea and each chapter is focused with easy, simple, impactful steps you can take to improve your own soundtrack.

Read it and reread it

I’m so glad I purchased this audio book! I’m about to purchase printed version to have as reference as I evaluate my own soundtracks.

Oh, and having Jon read his own book with his humor…great!

One You Feed

I came across Jon promoting this book on The One You Feed Podcast. I got the book on audible and started listening. A few chapters in, I knew it was gold (a foyer prediction.) and had the idea that if I could get a few copies of this book in to the hands of people in trauma recovery, it could be of great use as negative overthinking is common in the aftermath of abuse.

I am happy to report Jon was able to make this happen.

I just finished listening. I usually don’t take time to leave reviews, but this book has the power to change lives but only if you do the work. I’ll be listening to several chapters more than once as I learn to do this as I’m a master overthinker.

Grateful to have stumbled across this gem. Get it, read it, listen to it, whatever you do. Do it. Highly recommended.
