Publisher's summary

On a visit to Bath, Major Sir Robert Kurland and Lady Lucy Kurland discover that the English spa town is not beneficial to everyone's health....

After Sir Robert's injury from the battle of Waterloo begins troubling him again, his wife Lucy insists they relocate from the village of Kurland St. Mary to Bath, along with her sister Anna, so that Robert can take the waters and recover.

At the Roman baths, Robert befriends an elderly and pugnacious businessman, Sir William Benson, ennobled by the Crown for his service to industry. Their acquaintance is short-lived, however, when the man is found drowned in the baths. Robert vows to find his killer, with Lucy's aid.

The members of Sir William's family seem the most obvious suspects to benefit from the wealthy man's death, but his will has gone missing. To deduce who sent Sir William to a watery grave, Robert and Lucy must investigate with the utmost discretion-before they too find themselves in over their heads...

I have been sucked into the series

I ran the first in this series because it was offered as part of my membership. It’s not the most literary book I’ve ever read, nor the most intricate in terms of plot, but I found it completely enjoyable, and I have to confess, I am reading them all now. Book 8 is next for me. I think the narrator is excellent and I listen to about six audiobooks a month so I have a lot to compare her to. If you like regency England stories, and you like a nice cozy mystery, all the Agatha Christie, you will enjoy these books. It is really fun to watch somebody solve a mystery without the aid of computers, cell phones, and all the other accoutrements of modern technology.

Good mystery

I enjoyed this mystery. Some good twists and turns. Though I still thought Sir Robert was often a dolt toward Lucy. Took me awhile to get hooked into the mystery, but once I did, my interest held. I’ll be looking into the next one.

Excellent

Another great mystery set in Bath

When Robert goes to bath to take the waters and hopefully heal his leg, of course a murder occurs!

A cast of characters and secrets bring this to a good conclusion!!

Narration poor

The story was no worse than many. Narration irritating, unconvincing, poorly pronounced, sing song. Little difference between characters.

I might have enjoyed the book

If I had read the book I might have enjoyed it but the reading was very melodramatic so I struggled to get through it.
