Publisher's summary

Storyton Hall, Virginia, is a top travel destination for book lovers and the perfect spot for literary events. But as a children's book publisher hosts a gathering there, some folks aren't going to live - happier ever after or otherwise....

Jane Steward's resort is hopping - not only is Peppermint Press' conference in full swing, there are also lots of families staying on the premises, bringing their kids to events like a scavenger hunt through the Fairy Tale Forest.

Then a woman dressed like Little Red Riding Hood is found dead from a plot device straight out of a fairy tale-with a rare and valuable copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales in her basket. Not long after, a second victim is killed, with yet another treasure - a volume by Hans Christian Andersen worth thousands of dollars - nearby. It looks like a big bad wolf may be lurking among the guests, and Jane can't just wait for a handsome prince to come to the rescue....

Murder in the Stoybook Cottage

The story of Storyton Hall
The story of Storyton Hall is a fantasy! From the first one to this one I am immediately engaged in what is going on. I love all of the literary quotes as they pertain to the story. Jane has really brought about wonderful changes to Storyton Hall. The mystery is nicely woven into the story and activities at the Hall. Read this book and the others in the series they are so engaging!

I hope it continues!

This is my favorite of all of Ellery Adams’ series. Storyton Hall is a place I’d love to escape to (minus the murder part!). Rooms with themed libraries where once can nestle with a good book and a soothing cup of whiskey laced coffee or hot cocoa, a place free of the distraction of electronics, delectable teas served daily, friends and family that actually show up consistently... I find it cleverly written. I was so excited to learn that she had come out with another book, and it did not disappoint. I will refrain from spoiling the ending other than to say I hope that what was hinted to at the end comes in Ms. Adams’ next book!

Oh My Heart!

I don't know how she does it... Every book in this series is even better than the last! Not to mention the sneak peak about the next book at the very end!!! I can't wait for the next one!

Darkness Descends During Children's Book Retreat

Retreat owner Jane Steward is hosting a Children's Book Retreat with authors, illustrators, publishers, and several deserving families. The joyful retreat, complete with a storybook village, turns dark when a young woman is found dead in the woods. She's dressed like Little Red Riding Hood, and has died from a poisoned apple. The Finn's and local law enforcement work quickly to investigate the murder, but aren't fast enough to prevent another murder. The story moves along quickly with plenty of action and some back story.

I enjoy listening to Johanna Parker reading these stories. This is book 6 in Ellery Adams' Book Retreat Murder Mystery series. Book 5 was my favorite because she gave so much back story to Jane and her family, plus the crimes and action were so involved. In Book 6, she dials it back a little, clever set-up, but not quite as riveting.

One sour note in the whole audio.

I love Storyton hall books because they’re creative and a great escape. I love imagining myself going into the secret library, and reading in all the various rooms, eating Mrs, Hubbards delicious cooking, and just soaking in all warmth of the resort, the village and the people. I love the story itself. I’m on pins and needles trying to figure out who did it and why. The other great thing about Ms Adams’ books are no profanity. I just prefer not to have my stories polluted with profanity. So imagine my disappointment and surprise when Jane used the Lord’s name in vain. I think it was during a conversation with the Fins. I admit it tainted my view of the book after that. I just wanted to know whodunnit and why but it was difficult to fully enjoy the narration w/o worrying if my ears were going to be assaulted again. Johanna Parker’s Voice Ruined It!

The plot was interesting, but Johanna Parker’s voice ruined it. She’s too whiny and drags. All of the voices sound just like characters from a reading she did about a campsite in Kentucky. There was no variation. I like Ellery Adams’ books but not with Johanna Parker reading. Just awful!
