Publisher's summary

When Madison Reynolds finds herself widowed and penniless before 40, she does the only thing she knows to do - she packs up her teenage twins and moves back home with her 80-year-old grandmother. To make ends meet, Madison opens In a Pinch Temporary Services. Her first real client is Ronny Gleason, but when she shows up for the first day of work at the Gleason Poultry Farm, Madison makes a gruesome discovery. The dead body she finds belongs to Mr. Gleason. When a local man is arrested for murder, Madison takes on the job of proving his innocence. Even though she is not a private investigator, both mothers are desperate: Lucy Ngyen to clear her son's name, and Madison to pay her bills. But as she begins asking questions around town, her interference is not welcome.

With a daughter determined to go back to Dallas, a son settling into small-town life, a feisty grandmother who knows all the town gossip, bill collectors calling, and now someone trying to keep her silent, Madison has no time for re-kindling her high school crush with police chief Brash deCordova. She has her hands full just trying to stay alive.

If she survives her amateur investigation, Maddy has a decision to make. Will she go back to her life in Dallas, or will she build a new life here in The Sisters?

A Delightful Cozy with a Thriller Finish!

Chicken Scratch has all you want in a cozy. Fun Characters: Main Character Madison Reynolds whose conscientiousness is always getting her in unnerving situations, Best Friend Genesis , the baking Queen, the wise but crazy Granny Bert, and, of course, the easy-on-the-eyes Chief of Police. The story is fun with a few twists. This is the start to a new series and I look forward to reading the next book in the series to see these characters grow. I think all will enjoy this cozy - just hold onto your seat for the end!

GREAT READ

AS A NATIVE TEXAN, IT IS RARE THAT I LIKE BOOKS SET IN TEXAS, BUT BECKI WILLIS HAS DONE IT! I LOVE THE UNIQUE SETTING OF "THE SISTERS," THE CHARACTERS (HOPING FOR MUCH MORE ABOUT MADDIE AND BRASH), THE STORYLINE/MYSTERY. THE NARRATOR DOES A GREAT JOB WITHOUT TOO MUCH "HICK" IN HER ACCENT. I HAVE PRE-ORDERED BOOK 2. CANMOT WAIT!

Chicken Scratch

This is the first book in this mystery series. This is an excellent mystery with several different twist and turns. Madison moves back home with her grandma and opens an temp service to make ends meet. She gets a job at a chicken house. On her first day her boss is found dead. Maddie ends up trying to prove the kid arrested is innocent. Becki Willis wrote an excellent book and Courtney Patterson did an excellent job narrating this book. Pitch Perfect New Cozy—Binge Worthy

I love me a good cozy that is humorous, has well-fleshed out characters and setting, and a practically perfect (but a bit flawed) sleuth. This offering shows the Sisters mystery series is all that and more. I reviewed Book 8 this summer, wished for audio and saw that it’s now available: so glad I went for it. The Narrator is as Pitch Perfect as the story. I’ve found me a new binge-worthy series.

Loved my time in Texas

The narrator is perfect for this book! I had some frustration with Madison and her second guessing herself, but that is part of her flaws and something she needs to work on. It makes her more real. Overall this is a delightful read! It has a who-dun-it, a family starting over, Texas accents and environment and let’s not forget Granny Bert! I can’t wait to visit again!

Pretty Good

This is my first book by this author and I have to say that I enjoyed it. The characters are likable and the mystery is realistic. The small home town created by the author is believable and the quirky towns people add humor. I look forward to the next book.

This is the first in a series of four novels and is very entertaining. Narrator is very good and makes it interesting. I'm certainly going to get the second book.

Nice beginning to a new series

Becki Willis has crafted an original storyline. The characters are well developed. I enjoyed the crazy storyline. Courtney Patterson gave life to the characters as she brought it all to life. I highly recommend this book/audiobook to cozy mystery fans.
