Publisher's summary

Welcome to the quaint village of Blueberry Cove, Maine, where an expert seamstress turned amateur sleuth is getting measured for murder...

Iris Buckley is sew ready for a change. After the death of her beloved grandfather, Iris decides to stay in her Maine hometown to help out her widowed grandmother, Anne-and bring her online hand-made apron designs to real-time retail life. Her and Anne's shop, Ruffles & Bows, is set to include all the latest and vintage linen fashions, a studio for sewing groups and classes, and a friendly orange cat. The only thing that they were not planning to have on the property? A skeleton in the basement.

Anne recognizes the remains of an old friend, and when a second body shows up in the apron shop-this time their corrupt landlord, whom Anne had been feuding with for decades-she becomes a prime suspect. Now, it's up to Iris to help clear her name. Enlisting the help of her old high-school crush Ian Stewart who, like certain fabrics, has only gotten better-looking with age and her plucky BFF Madison Morris, Iris, must piece together an investigation to find out who the real killer is ...and find a way to keep her brand-new business from being scrapped in the process.

Lighthearted murder mystery with sewing references

Cute mystery, wonder if the book included an apron pattern? Our heroine is a seamstress and a business owner, small town intrigue, cold case, and lots of detail - a good listen

Very entertaining

Hems and Homicide is a humorous and entertaining cozy mystery. The characters are engaging and the story is well written with a lot of twists and turns. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in this series.

For anyone who would kill for some time to sew...

On a whim, I entered "sewing" into the search bar in Audible and I found this title. I'm a sewing addict--and I've devoured my fair share of books while hand-finishing dresses. I had credits to burn... so why not? I was not disappointed! I was actually quite pleasantly surprised--so I "burned" (i.e. gladly spent) my last few credits on the other titles in the series, and I can't wait to start listening.

My only complaint was the narration. I didn't feel like the narrator conveyed a 30 year-old, small town protagonist very well... more like a 15 year-old. Maybe that was the author's fault, but when I read passages, I didn't get the nasal, "valley girl" impression that the narrator used for the main character and her friends. Every time I loaded the book to listen for an hour, I heard "California actor" instead of "small town girl." It was distracting.

So the basic takeaway: didn't care for the narration, but really enjoyed the book... enough to get the other titles in the series.

Hate to say it

I did not enjoy this book. I normally love most books but the characters in this book were more childish than I figured 30 year olds behave. The plot wasn't too bad, boring at times. I was hoping to hear more about vintage linens or vintage aprons. I don't think every cozy mystery has to have a love interest. I am going to return this title, I love to relisten good books but it was honestly a chores to finish this one.
