Publisher's summary

Liam loves his life as a linguist and trader on the Rownt homeworld, but he has ignored his heart and sexual needs for years. After escaping the horrors of war, he wants a boring life. He won't risk letting anyone come too close because he won't risk letting anyone see his deeply submissive nature. For him, submission comes with pain. Life burned that lesson into his soul from a young age.

This fear keeps him from noticing that the Rownt trader Ondry cares for him. Ondry may not understand humans, but he recognizes a wounded soul, and his need to protect Liam is quickly outpacing his common sense. They may have laws, culture, and incompatible genitalia in their way, but Ondry knows that he can find a way to overcome all that if he can just overcome the ghosts of Liam's past. Only then can he take possession of a man he has grown to respect.

Contains mature themes.

A very enjoyable beginning.

The truest form of an alien encounter book, including all of the language and cultural fumbles you would expect from encountering a different species, while still being a sweet story with wonderful characters. I enjoyed the extras at the end that till parts of the book from different perspectives. A satisfying start to a series.

Love!

Rownt are harsher and in some ways closer to their instincts than the human race, yet they live for centuries and see the world in ways humans cannot begin to understand, much less achieve. Lyn Gala explores the weaknesses and absurdities of the human psyche in juxtaposition to an alien race, and I am in love. So, so worth a listen!

Sci Fi and MM Romance

I just finished listening to Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts for a second time, and thoroughly enjoyed the revisit. Lyn Gala's story is of a future merchant/explorer/military human adventure on an alien planet, rather like the historical Marco Polo visits to foreign cities where the language, customs, and trading etiquette had to be learned and carefully managed so as not to cause insult and banishment. Lyn Gala skillfully creates an alien society with fully developed culture and societal norms. And into this society comes Liam, a linguist. Liam went into the military to escape poverty and abuse, and after barely escaping death on the front lines of a human/alien war in another region of space, is now serving on the Rownt planet gathering cultural and language information for the military via trading with the Rownt. Initially Liam struggles to make any trades or learn much of anything until Ondry, a Rownt trader (considered 'young' by his society) perceives Liam as naive as a Rownt child in need of a teacher, and reaches out a compassionate hand. Liam is a most responsive and able student, and Ondry comes to see him as a rare being in need of a protector. I found the final section with Common Sayings & Common Greetings to be delightful! So insightful in appreciating the next books in the series. Be sure and listen to the bonus episodes at the end to gain deeper understanding of the events that transpire in this delightful story.

So Happy This Came To Audio!

I first read this book, then listened to the audio. Liam is a broken man traumatized by his past and is looking for someone he can trust, someone who will protect. And Ondry, through his patience and strength, is the one who offers Liam safe harbor. In Liam, Ondry has someone to take care of, someone to share his home (nest) with.

This is definitely Sci-fi as Ondry doesn't think or act like a human and yet, he is such an engaging and endearing character. The author does an excellent job in world-building, both in place and in culture. There are caretaker elements of light bdsm. While the ending is HFN, it is wholly satisfying. And, of course, the other books in the series are out so new readers can dive right back in!

John Solo does an excellent job narrating this story. He has a great sense of timing and his voicing of Liam's inner monologue was a treat to listen to. Until this performance, I had missed some of Liam's sass. And the narrator's matter-of-fact tone for Ondry reinforced that Ondry was "other" and yet still engaging.

I recommend this audio and am looking forward to the second book!

Tons of fun and Satire

3.5 to 4 Blue Roses
3.5 to 4 Blue Flames

Narrator John Solo performed an outstanding science fiction audiobook with tons of hidden satire and deeper meanings as easy as butter melts on toast.
The wayward alien characters were brought to life and in my minds eye I felt like I was in the Never-ending Story from way back, many years ago.

There is lots of twists and turns, and some unanswered questions. I believe we can expect a follow up. The story did end a little abruptly, and if it wasn't for the bonus content at the end I think I would have been much more disappointed. Lots of answers in that bonus content, we hear Rownt's POV.
I will definitely be on the lookout for book 2.

Yip, I do recommend this audiobook, it's something different and has tons of fun.

Happy Listening.

Can't believe I didn't find this earilier!!

This is a gem of a find. Great narration. Great characters and world building. A lot of effort went into not only the main characters but the supporting "cast" as well. Not to mention a whole new language.
I just loved the grandmas!! Reminded me of that turtle from the Never-ending Story 😂😂
I wish there were more sci-fi stories like this outhere. I'll be rereading this one for sure and can't wait to continue with the next book in this series.
