STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY

The Klingon Empire is on the verge of collapse in this unputdownable Star Trek adventure starring James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise.

Internal pressures, enormous military expenditures, and the destruction of their primary energy source have brought the Klingon Empire to its knees. To avert disaster, Gorkon, Chancellor of the Klingon High Council, proposes negotiations between the Federation and Klingon Empire, negotiations that will put an end to the years of hostility between the two powers, and herald a new era of peace and cooperation.

The crew of the USS Enterprise are dispatched to escort the Chancellor safely into Federation space. But a treacherous assassination brings negotiations to a sudden halt and places Kirk and Dr. McCoy in the hands of the Federation’s greatest enemy. With time running out, Spock works to uncover the deadly secret that threatens to propel the galaxy into the most destructive conflict it has ever known.

Audio adaptation doesn’t do justice.

James Doohan does a great job narrating undiscovered country though there are a few points where he doesn’t always get the inflection or emphasis in characters’ dialogue quite right. A bright spot is that there is some extra information provided in this adaptation that was cut from the movie.

My main disappointment is the slight bits of abridgement some of which make large differences in the plot. For example Colonel West despite having a notable role in the film is never mentioned in the audio adaptation. At the end, the assassin is completely forgotten and left at large.

In conclusion, if they make a full novel and then make an unabridged audiobook of that, it will be epic. Until then, the movie is better.

short and sweet

It was heavily edited. Usually, books are more detailed than movies. This is not the case. It is enjoyable as a quick story, but as a star trek fan I found it lackluster.

Theater for the mind!

Started listening to these stories in the early 2000. Fantastic narration and the sound effects make these stories come alive!

Best movie

Since James Doohan has died, I would never say his performance was not stellar. That being said. This is best as a movie not an audio book.

So much cut and changed, it feels like a summary.

I really wanted to like this, but too much was cut out or changed.
