About this listen

They only come when it snows, and nobody ever gets away.

A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah. Instead, it may be their last stand. First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned. Then the more chilling realization: Something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting....

Now a weekend of family, friends, and fun has turned into a test of love and loyalty in the face of inhuman horrors. The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight - tooth and nail, bullet and blade - for their lives. Otherwise, they’ll end up like the monsters’ other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains.

Good suspenseful story, characters problematic

This story is interesting and suspenseful. Overall I enjoyed it. The pacing was good, the story line generally okay and I liked the way it ended. I, personally, would not really call it scary, but there was plenty of tension and twists. The characters are the real problem here. I was more invested in some of the vignette characters than the main ones. Ultimately, I didn't really care if they survived. Almost all the women were portrayed as incompetent, whiny and overly emotional. They were a particular point of frustration for me and it marred an otherwise pleasant book.

Luke Daniels is always amazing - always.

Good story, not so good ending.

Great read all the way through, but didn't care for the ending. Superb performance by the narrator as usual!

Screaming at the characters :)

I guess when the characters are making choices that had me screaming, that means I was into it. Book had me laughing at times (Ryan character) and stupified (Jane character). One of those stories you can easily see becoming a movie. The last chapter is just over the top. I literally grabbed my pillow in fury at the stupid decisions being made. There has to be a sequel. Must be!

WOW

Gross and creepy! I am officially terrified of the dark and snow storms. One of the best books I've read yet!!

If you like a good monster book, this is it.

I have been looking for a good monster book after reading Max Brook's Devolution (another good read), this book served up a spooky little treat of a story. When I initially read some of the reviews I was afraid this book was going to be bogged down by focusing too much on the romantic elements of this story BUT I found that the author did a great job of not falling into any annoying tropes that might take away from the main point of the story, monsters 👹. I will say, I wish I had read this one rather than listening to the audio version but that's just because I often find readers in general to be a touch distracting. If you like a good monster story, you've found it. Enjoy!

Ania always wins

Loved the story itself. My only complaint is the narrating. Audible really should have multiple voice actors. Men doing woman’s voices and little girl voices is just ear grating. Not that they didn’t do a good job it’s just hard to listen to

Felt like a B Horror Movie Screenplay

I can tell the author has talent. However this one wasn’t for me. It was short, characters were annoying, predictable love triangle, played out horror tropes. Not nearly as good as her other novels.

Enjoyed it

It was very enjoyable TBH. Reminded me a little of The Hill Have Eyes. Loved the ending 💀

Just soooo good!

Big fan of this author! I’ve just listened to this book for a second time within a year. It’s so well written, and so well narrated- I’ve been disappointed trying to find another thriller on the same level. So I thought, back to the best! Definitely give it a go!

Great description

The writer poured a lot of emotion into the characters, seamlessly blending them with the settings and situations they faced.
