The Colonial Defense Forces usually protect humanity from alien attack, but now the stability of the Colonial Union has been threatened, and Lieutenant Heather Lee and her squad are called to squash a rebellion on a colony world. It seems simple enough - but there's a second act to the rebellion that finds Lee captive, alone, and armed with only her brains to survive.

"Look with your ears."
This story started out one thing, and then it changed. I just kept getting more intense and interesting. The drama and tension built, but there was still a trace of comedy relief. I love books that can make me laugh but still have me on the edge of my seat to the end. The fact that this short story can do all of that in such a short time is brilliant. Brilliance shown by both the author and the narrator.
The narration is wonderful. Perfect pitch. I can see the irony that would be evident without the words.
I read that question twice and then went and checked the narrator's name. The main character is a woman and even though I know it was a man's voice, my mind tells me I heard a woman. That is a real skill.
This was a book I had to listen to in one sitting. I couldn't just listen to part of it and go do something else. I needed to know the end.
this is a great series. I'm torn as I can't wait for the next one to be released, but then there is one more gone towards the end of the series. I don't want it to end. But I want to know what happens. Colour me confused much?
5 stars is i love and i will read agani and again. 1 is i hate and i never want to hear about it ever again. YES = :))) - NO= :'(
"Lee is a smart one"
Damn, Lee is a smart one, I liked the 7th book, but this one was much better..
I liked the ending a lot and specially the ...... well have a listen and you will know.
Anyways another good book in this series and looking forward for next week's book.
Cheers
I can find a book to love in any genre -- a beautifully written classic, an interesting mystery or sci-fi, a trashy romance. Bring it!
"Pretty good episode for this series but..."
This is Episode 8 of The Human Division series. Only two episodes so far have, in my opinion, been freestanding episodes with good, solid story lines and a creative conclusion. Many of the episodes are just filler stuff, making me wonder why in the &%$#@!! Scalzi divided what might have been one longer book into all these silly pieces, some of which have no plot and no real ending. Strange. That being said, this episode had a good plot with creative thinking by the main character, some action and, of course, a scifi component. It came to a complete conclusion, but that conclusion was kind of -- well, blah.
The narrator did a good job, despite the fact that there were no real challenges to the performance. The computer-enhanced voice for the alien was really cool!

"Voice Of Victory."
Sound of the Rebellion is one of my favorites so far. while the plot is familiar , how the protagonist solves her situation is clever and entertaining .
"Loving this series"
As soon as a new segment is available I stop listening to whatever else I have on the go.
The characters feel real and the narration is superb. I would like to see more series like this one.

"Short Action-Packed Episode"
This was a fun action-packed episode in the ongoing series. So far Scalzi has been giving us lots of vignettes of various characters in the universe as the larger plot unfolds in the background. It's an interesting way to look at it. I wonder, since we're past the halfway points whether then larger events will be resolved in this series, or whether he is setting the stage for a larger novel later on. My guess is the latter!
"Best of the bunch so far"
Now this is what I expect from a story from the Old Mans War universe. Blood (in a good way) and guts, attitude, and comedy all rolled into one. Dont mess with Lt Heather Lee and the CDF
"Very Good!"
The only thing I don't like is that they are too Short! This is a very cool story.
