Publisher's summary

Ava Birch killed herself and woke up a ghoul with an attitude and a hunger for the dead. With no manual and very little help coming from the supernatural community, Ava offers her services to the regional psychic. Her newest job? Apparently zombies have been spotted in a small town nearby. Ava wades in thinking that this job will be a piece of cake...or at least as tasty. Navigating meddling vampires, bothersome witches, and a peculiar case of memory loss...and now her best friend and human companion has up and walked out. Things go from bad to worse when Ava discovers that there is a force behind these recent zombie sightings that may date back to the time of the Black Plague. Sometimes a ghoul would just rather stay in bed...or at least her sound proof basement where nobody can hear you scream.

I cannot get enough of shark mouth

What did you love best about That Ghoul Ava and The Queen of the Zombies?

Ava of course. She is the main character who became a ghoul and has embarked on a new life in the supernatural world. This is the second in the series and can be heard as a stand-alone but the first book is so good it would add to the enjoyment. The Zombie Queen (capitalized ) is the baddie in need of a beat down but there are other problems as well. Ava blunders her way though in her funny way and I enjoyed it thoroughly. There is a different narrator for this one that takes some adjusting to but may be better than the first in the end. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a good listen that has humor and supernatural elements as well. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Oh Ava! How I love thee!

This second book does not fail to disappoint or make me laugh. I adore Ava. She is funny, sassy, completely irreverent, and a great companion for my commute.

If you haven't read the first Ava book, read it too. It's fun to find out how this aging waitress turned ghoul came to be in detail. And it sets you up for the fun of seeing her engage with the Queen of the Zombies.

I like this narrator. She gets the ghoulish nature into her reading without making Ava sound well, dead. Her comedic timing is great and that, combined with the very funny dialogue, made me laugh aloud several times.

This is a great listen and I hope more book come soon. I find I miss Ava and her "charm."

loving the series

That Ghoul Ava and The Queen of the Zombies by TW Brown is such a fun read. I love when Ava totally goes off on her dazed out tangents and stops paying attention, missing somewhat important info. I totally know that feeling. The story is very interesting and fun. Makes you want to keep reading rest of series.

Pamela Lorence narrates this story and does a great job. The voice definitely matches the personality in my opinion. Amps up the overall enjoyable experience of the book.

Nice addition to the series.

That Ghoul Ava is a fun addition to the urban fantasy landscape. She kind of ditzy, which has its own appeal in a genre of more serious stuff like Dresden and the Iron Druid. She is a fun character, with more depth than you'd expect, especially as she discovers what a ghoul is capable of. The setting is well drawn, with Portland being kind of an exotic setting from the usual NY/Chicago/LA norm in urban fantasy. If your more into the lighter side of fantasy, this is the book for you. The change in narrators from book 1 was a little jarring, but she got into the swing of the characters about a quarter of the way in and it was an enjoyable listen.

I was given a.copy of this book at no charge by the author in exchange for an honest review through Audiobook Boom.

A deranged truckers view.

Love Ava, my kind of girl I would date her. Again anyone who reads should read these books even if not a fan of zombies the books are great.

You'll suddenly see ghouls and zombies differently

Would you consider the audio edition of That Ghoul Ava and The Queen of the Zombies to be better than the print version?

I loved both the audio and the printed versions of this book.

What other book might you compare That Ghoul Ava and The Queen of the Zombies to and why?

Ava's humor reminds me of a mix of Katie MacAlister heroines and a shot of Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was when Ava freaked out the Queen of the Zombies by pulling hunks of her flesh off and eating it like it was candy.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found myself laughing out loud more often then not. I had more than my fair share of people looking at me like I had went loco.

Any additional comments?

Love, love, love this series! I am so keeping my fingers crossed that it becomes a tv series or a movie!

Such a cute series!

I love this series! I don't know how to describe it other than "cute." Ava's a goul and she eats dead people. She's a little blunt and knows what she likes. I would very much like to continue the series, but I'm not willing to pay a $15 credit per book. This audiobook was given to me for free in exchange for an honest review, and that's what I'm giving. I love both of the first books, but I can't see paying a $15 credit for a 5 to 6 hour audiobook. I'll wait until I see the series on sale, for like $1.99, but no more than $2.99, per audiobook.
