In a world on the brink of madness...

In the summer of 1914, a young man beyond reproach awakens under police guardgrievously injured and accused of heinous, impossible murder.

And in a strange, distant place...

The youngest member of a penniless acting troupe has been taken prisoner by the loyal minions of a corrupt, vengeful goddess. For an ancient prophecy has divided the realm's ruling Deities into warring factions -- a prophecy thatmentions the crippled captive child ... and a youth recovering from inexplicable wounds in a British hospital bed.

The Game weaves through worlds and dimensions as it has since time immemorial -- a deadly contest of skill and manipulations thatruthlessly creates wizards, destroys human pawns...and trans transforms ordinary men, women and children into something more.

The great game of gods is afoot.

If you could sum up Past Imperative in three words, what would they be?

Cool Fantasy Concept

Would you be willing to try another one of Mark Ashby’s performances?

I'm going to get the other two books in the series, but probably wouldn't get any others.

Any additional comments?

I really like the concept for these books. Read them over a decade ago, and am enjoying the concept again just as much. Ashby's reading is less than inspired - his accents are dubious at best, and the majority of the narrative is lacking. However, the religious/magical ideas in this book are very cool. Characters are decent, though not the best I've ever read. A great fun, light listen. Give these books a shot!

Great portal fantasy, despite drab reading
