This story branches off into two tracks. The first begins thousands of years ago, when an alien ship from a doomed world, seeking a planet to colonize, crashes on earth. There is only one survivor, and it becomes his mission to find an intelligence on Earth - or in Earth's future - equal to his own. To do this, he puts himself into a suspended animation and makes jumps forward in history, at each stop looking for the most intelligent human of that time.

In a parallel story in the present time, a mysterious space-born plague has infected Earth and may wipe out all life by creating energy sucking vampires of the people it infects. The most brilliant scientist on Earth, Stephen Court, tries stop the plague and save the world but has only limited success.

Eventually, the two stories converge as the alien reaches Stephen's time. Will he find himself on another doomed planet or be able to team with the scientist to stop it?

Jim Roberts had me wondering which caracter was talking from time to time, I personally found him to be very monotone and drone on a bit. I put this behind me and listened to the end, some of the things happening in the book had me thinking at the time " how could that physically happen"
On the whole though, for a low price book it was ok

An ok read

This is a weird book. The story wanders around, with no real character development. Some of the science is pretty good (for 1940), and some is horribly bad. Unfortunately, Jim Roberts reads this book like a grocery list. It's a good cure for insomnia, but not very interesting.

Avoid This One

I enjoyed this one. At times it was a little shallow but still a good listen.

good and easy listen

I can't finish this story as the narrator is painful to listen to and mispronounces words. The story itself is a okay I suppose but I can't get past the wretched mechanical voice that sounds like it is being stutteringly read in a tunnel.

Jim Roberts is the worst narrator .
