The Tin Roof Blowdown begins with the shooting of two would-be looters in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, and then follows a motley group of characters - from street thugs to a big-time mob boss, from a junkie priest to a sadistic psychopath.

As their stories converge on a cache of stolen diamonds, the storm turns the Big Easy into a lawless wasteland of apocalyptic proportions,

A complex, fast-moving story of greed, tragedy, violence and redemption. No, not the tale of the current financial crisis, but a thriller set in the New Orleans area in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. A very well-written, well-paced tale that kept a consistently high level of tension. This is the first time I have read a James Lee Burke thriller, and I will certainly be downloading more. The narrator, Will Patton, is simply stunning. His voice variation is outstanding, and his ability to project the characters has to be experienced to be believed. He probably would struggle with Jane Austen, but he suits this book right down to the ground.I seldom give 5 stars to contemporary novels, but this deserves 5 and more.
