As good as the first!

If you read or listened to Sabriel (the first of this series), I would heartily reccomend that you listen to this book as well. The story is not as fast paced as the first, but the characters come alive during the course of the story. Sam and Lirael are both flawed, but that is what makes them interesting and real.

The ending will certainly leave you wanted more, but luckily the next book in line is waiting for you to download. Ah...The information age when everything you want can be instantly granted for you. Happy Listening.

Oh, Tim Curry.

I love Tim Curry, really I do, but hearing him read from a female protagonist's point of view was almost more than I could bear. The story is fascinating, well paced, and unfolds quite nicely. The characters were likable and flawed just enough to make them real but not so much that it was frustrating or distracting.

Wonderful, Riveting, but too Much Exposition

Loved Lirael -- perhaps a shade less than Sabriel, but there it as. Wonderfully written, as was it's predecessor, and the character of Lirael is even more nuanced and interesting than Sabriel, if perhaps a little bit less "likable." The Old Kingdom's system of magic is greatly expounded upon here too, which strips away some of the mystique, but helps make its use less Deus ex Machina.

On the whole, another solid read, even if it does feel a bit like 15 hours of exposition leading up to the next book, as opposed to a more self-standing novel like Sabriel. Still, Tim Curry is a wonderful performer and this is a don't-miss title for sure.

A fun story for the season.

Loved it. I have read the books and found them interesting. Tim Curry's performance is masterful and very entertaining.

Great Voice Acting

I love the reader for this book! I love the book too! But combining this awesome story with that awesome voice is just enthralling. As soon as I started listening, I was hooked and I was finished in no time at all.

Solid sequel

Very much enjoyed this sequel as a whole, including the narrator.

I didn't enjoy Sam's arc as much, but luckily it is redeemed near the end of the book.

always live this story and curry helps it come to life. he could be a little more varying in his female tones but that's just an afterthought

Great sequel!

This novel really is amazing! Lirael makes an amazing protagonist with her own desires, fears, and desires. Sam is less so, but still very understandable. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and the audio-book with Tim Curry is simply perfect.
