NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A “compulsively readable” (Diana Gabaldon) novel teeming with love, betrayal, and religious conflict that brings ancient Egypt to vivid life, from the author of Cleopatra’s Daughter and Maria

“Meticulously researched and richly detailed . . . an engrossing tribute to one of the most powerful and alluring women in history.”—The Boston Globe

Nefertiti and her younger sister, Mutnodjmet, have been raised in a powerful family that has provided wives to the rulers of Egypt for centuries. Ambitious, charismatic, and beautiful, Nefertiti is destined to marry Amunhotep, an unstable young pharaoh. It is hoped that her strong personality will temper the young ruler’s heretical desire to forsake Egypt’s ancient gods.

From the moment of her arrival in Thebes, Nefertiti is beloved by the people, but she fails to see that powerful forces are plotting against her husband’s reign. The only person brave enough to warn the queen is her younger sister, yet remaining loyal to Nefertiti will force Mutnodjmet into a dangerous political game—one that could cost her everything she holds dear.©2007 Michelle Moran; (P)2007 Books on Tape

Critic reviews

Nefertiti is a fascinating window into the past, a heroic story with a very human heart. Compulsively readable!”—Diana Gabaldon, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Breath of Snow and Ashes

“A wonderful, beautifully written, and well researched novel, Nefertiti is a page-turner filled with amazing visuals of a dazzling historical period.”Romance Reviews Today

“A stunning debut-I can't believe it's her first novel-what a thrilling read! I found the whole book rich and compelling, exciting and haunting. Nefertiti is a fine creation, both appealing and frightening, and she's surrounded by a thoroughly satisfying cast of characters, too. The whole world of Anceient Egypt comes to life.”—Rosalind Miles, bestselling author of I, Elizabeth

“There haven’t been two more fascinating or outrageous siblings since the Boleyn sisters . . . Nefertiti is obsessive reading.”—Robin Maxwell, author of The Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn

“An engrossing page-turner, Nefertiti brings ancient Egypt to life as two royal sisters struggle to find fulfillment and happiness—one craving ultimate political power, the other desiring only to follow her heart. A strong debut novel of passion and intrigue, Nefertiti kept me up way too late!”—India Edghill, author of Wisdom’s Daughter

“A provocative portrait of limitless power in an ancient land of limitless fascination.”—Ki Longfellow, author of The Secret Magdalene

“Though sometimes big events are telegraphed, Moran, who lives in California and is making her U.S. debut, gets the details just right, and there are still plenty of surprises in an epic that brings an ancient world to life.”Publishers Weekly

“Beautifully written and completely engrossing, this first novel should enjoy wide readership.”Library Journal

I wanted this book to be sexier, stronger and more exciting than it was. In the end, it was interesting, but mostly a background book. I do give Michelle Moran points for her attempt at historical accuracy, and I do appreciate her approach to the noble court in Egypt. She could have taken liberties but chose to keep it as faithful as she could to the present-day conjectures on Nefertiti's life.

The narrator did a decent job. Again, it could have been pumped up to generate excitement to the reader. I do feel like the reader did justice to the Nefertiti's sister's voice.

Nefertiti: A Bit Boring

I am glad I listened to this book, I learned things I was unsure about ( Nefertiti's relationship to King Tut; ) and things I had never thought about ( Rats will stay away from mint.) It is an interesting, entertaining and enjoyable book.

Great listen!

So, I thought I bought a historical book on Nefertiti. Turns out this is a novel told from the perspective of a boring, less-than, little sister of Nefertiti. However, the story was pretty intriguing and fun in its historic play. I'm a big 18th Dynasty Egypt reader/novice historian, and enjoyed the blend of history and drama. I'm excited to listen to the next book! Kudos to the writer. Very creative. Great narration, too.

Not what I expected, but wow!

I often read on ancient Egypt and this story was a nice visit to that intriguing time and characters. I listen in the evening and this was nice for relaxing. Enjoyed thoroughly.

WOW! What a ride into history! I thoroughly enjoyed this interpretation of what could have taken place, the beauty brought forth in such tantalizing depiction of detail, and how Michelle Moran weaves this story so that I am transported, as if I am there witnessing everything right before my very eyes! Well done!!

Truly Royal!
